Douglas l.ockman left last week for month's vitit in Portland ai,d Eugene. Wm. BaTttt, of Wasco, came down to attend the fruit grower's meeting Saturday. Duane Wieden spent last week on the Wieden rroperty in Odell. He left early in the week lor his home in Port land. He expects scon to -return to Odell to remain indefinitely. Mrs. Mary Perkins, of California, is htre for a visit with her daughter, Mrs. t rank Spencer. Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Kemp and Mrs. Alice K. Poole, are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Dane Kemp and Mrs. Nettie Crockett at Corfu-lie, Cal. Though the weather is cold fur California, the health-giving air and bunshine are doing tine work for these young people who have so many frienils in Odell and vicinity, who hear with pleasure these good reports from them. Dr. Dutro reports the followina births last week in Odell: To Mr. and Mrs. Joe Dimmick, January 20, a ten pound son. Mrs. Dimmick is at the home of her mother, Mrs. Anrta Lenz. To Mr. and Mrs. A. I'ierce. Januarv 21, an eight-pound daughter. The Ladies' Aid Soeietv met at the home of Mrs. H. Kodamer Wednesday afternoon for a pleasant time socially and for business and work. No mail came out to Odell on It. D. No. 2 last week, the carrier having resigned on Saturday, January 18. A new carrier is at work and is learning the route, an undertaking that is by no means easy when taken up at this time as this has been without the helD of one who is familiar'with the work.- Margie Crockett and Roy Gillctt, of Rupert, Idaho, were married last week Thursday. The birde is a daughter of Mrs. Hattie Crockett, of Rupert, Ida ho, and is well known in Odell, as she spent the days when she was a little girl here with her parents. Since hir home has been in Rupert she has vis ited her sister, Mrs. W. P. Kemp, sev eral times and she is always is gladly welcomed by everyone who knows her here and w hose love she has won by her charming manner, ihe groom is in the employ of the V. S. Government and while not known in Odell, reports from those who know him are that he is a worthy young gentleman. That health, happiness and prosperity tie theirs in generous measure, is the wish of their many friends in Odell, Mr. Hawthorne met with a serious accident while driving home from Hood River last Saturday. Mr. Hawhtorne had a single sleigh and was driving near one side of the street, as the snow was worn from the middle of the street. When near the home of Wm. Stewart, in Hood River, the hurse stepped into a hole, overturning the sleigh and throwing Mr. Hawthorne out, so that he struck the curbing. He also collided with a uuggy and was carried to Mr. Stewart's home uncon scious, ur. Watt was called ana at tended him and he was able to be broueht home that evening. He re ceived severe cuts about the head and was badly shaken up, but at last re ports was recovering satisfactorily. Mr. and Mrs. Wessel. of Hood River, have been visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lmry. A 500 club has been organized in Odell. This club meets every Satur day night. Last Saturday night .Mrs. Harry Emery entertained the mem bers. Mrs. Howard Leedom won first crize and Mrs. E. T. Hull second. Next Saturday evening the club will be entertained at the home of Mrs. Howard Leedom. The basket ball game at Odell Ath letic Association vs. Mosier, played in the gymnasium at Odell last Friday evening, resulted in a score or 4 10.5 in favor of Odell. A return game will be played in two weeks. Udell's line up follows: W. Sheppard, Davis, for wards; C. Sheppard, center; Lafferty, Lewis, guards, Locknian. Mrs. S. D. Fisher, of Mosier, came over with the basket ball crowd Friday night and had a short visit with her mother, Mrs. Matilda wood, ana ner brothel, Clinton Wood. An incident which occurred in Odell last week suggests a new use for the trund e bed of a half century ago. Why build smoke houses and store houses in which to keep tne meat ior family use? Simply procure one or more trundle beds and utilize space to the very best advantage. Truly veni son is "dear" meat just now. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Ferguson are Portland visitors this week. Mr. and Mrs. Woodburn, of East Barrett, were guests at the J. W. Davis home last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Busby spent Thursday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lape. Mrs. Sawyer has returned from her visit at White Salmon, Wn. Mrs. F. C. We presume much good was done by their coming together and ex changing ideas on the line of orchard work. Mrs. Farrell has been suffering with a heavy cold. Miss Laura O'Neirhas the grip. Mr. and Mrs. Forden's children have whooping cough. Eileen Downing has chicken pox. Misses Emma and Irene Williamsare home from Portland. Miss Irene is at tending school in Hood River. Marsh Isenberg is packing apples in Hood River. Will Davis has a shingling bee. Some of his neighbpors are helping him to finish his new barn. Cauller entertained at dinner Friday night in honor of the Queen Esther class of the Christian Sunday school. 1 The neighbors and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Cays gave them a sur prise house-warming Wednesday even ing. About fifty guests were present. Delicious refreshments were served. Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Sweaney gave a dinner party Wednesday evening. Those present were: Kev. and Mrs. Bennett, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Gibbons and Miss Emma Swenson. The entertainment to be given at the Christian church Friday evening promises to be very pleasing. Two play's will be presented: "Tbe Spin sters' Convention" and "The Case of Smith vs. Smythe," a breach of prom ise case. Preparafions are under wav for the evangelical meetings to begin soon at the Christian Church. It is hoped that all will make an effort to attend. Wm. Davidson recently returned from taking the short course at the O. A. C. Miss Vera Taylor has recently been visiting Mrs. B. L. Murphy. George Myers sustained a severe in jury Friday, nearly fracturing a limb. He will be confined to his home for some time. The eldest son nf Mr. and Mrs. Mc- Cabe has been quite ill. Mrs. Emma Swenson entertained Miss Mapes for the week end. The schoolmates of Archie Cays sur prised him Saturday in honor of his thirteenth birthday. A social party of friends and neigh bors was given at Grange hall Satur day evening and all reported a good time. Mrs. Walker, of Portland, has been secured by Ben Lage to care for his home, arriving Sunday afternoon. Members of the Suiflower class will present the comedy, "Mr. Bob," Fri day evening, February 7. Mrs. MacOunald and Mrs. Amanda Sears are recovering from severe at tacks of the giip. Walter Vannier returned from Port land last Wednesday. H. M. Vannier is in Portland visiting friends. MOSIER. Wm. N. Akers left Tuesday for his home in Portland, after spending a few weeks on the ranch. H. G. Kibbe made a business trip to The. Dalles Wednesday. Miss Ruth Phillip, who has charge of the school in District No. 41, was called to Hood River over a week ago by the illness of her mother, and later we learn of her mother's death, hich occurred a week ago Sunday. E. Jacobsen and son returned to Portland Wednesday, having .spent a few weeks here on the ranch. Mrs. Geo. Emery, of Hood River, visited relatives in Mosier this week. Gus Gcdberson was in The Dalles Wednesday. Mrs. J. N. Mosier left Portland Wednesday for Los Angeles, Cal., via San Francisco. E. 0. Winans was having dental work attended to in The Dalles Thurs day. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Corey, of H00J River, spent a few isys this week, as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. rred Evans. SV. L. Rowland returned Wednesday evening from a busir.ess trip to Port land. Root and son, Howard, and the Misses Lurline and Olive Fisher, were pasengers to The Dalles Saturday. Miss Emily Husbands entertained a party of friends Friday evening at" her home in honor of the passing of the fifteenth milestone along her journey through life.
