Union Lays New Pipe The Mood Kiver Apple Growers' Union is now engaged in replacing- the wood dtave pipe of its water system, pi.rrhased last fall from Joseph A. Wilson, with ' iron pipe. The new stretch of pipe is '0 feet long and wili extend along Second street to the res ervoir on the Heights. j Greek Laborer Injured One cf the Greek laborers was brought to the Cottage hospital from the Stone A Webster cimp on the Lit tle White Salmon Tuesday, suffering from a fractured leg. Flks Will Be Seen at Gem The moving pictures of the parades of the recent Elks' Convention ir Port land will be seen at the (!em theatre next Monday and Tuesday evenings. The program for tonight is as follows: "Neighbors," a farce comedy; "Indian Gratitude," "Making Pbolo plays in Kgypt, where the Pharohs Lived." Friday and Saturday nights the follow ing reels will be seen: "A Temporary Truce," "Any Old Clothes?", The first play will require two reels. The Cem continues the Pathe Weeklies. A new baby grand piano has just been in stalled. New Station Opened at The Dalles Several Daliesites "got up before breakfast" Saturday morning to wit ness the departure of the local train at 6:50 a. m., an event which marked the opening of the new $10,000 O-.W. K. & N, depot. Mayor Judd S. Fish arose at 5 o'clock and camped with his breakfast in front of the ticket window so he coould buy the first bit of pasteboard aold at the new station. No, he didn t go away. He spent 10 cents for a ticket to Crates. He is going to have the ticket framed. More Fry Next Week An additional shipment of trout fry will be received by the Commercial club here next week. The trout re ceived this week were distributed in the small streams in the Upper Valey, the minnows having 1 been taken to Parkdale over the Mount Hood line. The fry to be received next week will be used in the streams nearer the city. Some will be placed in Phelps, Indian and other smaller streams in the Lower Valley. - ir is urgea oy secretary tfcott mat all who desire these fish in certain streams and who are willing to asisst in distributing them let him know im mediately. Saturday, Baby Day at Electric Saturday evening the Hood River babies will bo the ruling feature at the Electric theatre. The management of the show ia going to have a big baby show. They have secured the services of a photographer, who will visit your home and secure a picture of your little one, if you will call the oilice, Phone 64. Every paid admisihon will entitle the person visiting the show to 25 votes. The prettiest baby will thus be chosen. A number of prises will bo awarded the handsomest babies. Pictures of Hood River babies will be shown at'the performances, begin ning Saturday and continuing for per haps two weeks. Sharpe Case to Be Called Again The chho of E. V. Sharpe, plaintiff, against W. H. Robertson and The V mted Mates Fidelity & Cuarantv Co. ! hus just been decided by Jiide ISrad sftaw in favor of the plaintiff, allowing him $.'!,4fi0. This was an action brought by the plaintiff to recover $4750 dam ages from the defendants, for failure to'clear sixty acres of land near Park diile in accordance with the contract. While the plaintiff was given a judg ment tor JUS00 leas than he sued for, atill defendants feel dissatisfied, and the case will be appealed by the de fendants to the supreme court. National Company Will Ship Carloads Two carloads of this season's fruit will be shipped out from the valley Sunday and Monday by the National ' Apple Co. The fruit, which will be composed of the varieties, Kings and Cravensteins., will be sent to Alaskan dealers. A. P. Sprague, of the Union, states that they will begin carload lots the latter part of this or the first of next week. Wilmer Sieg, general manager of the Union, who has been on an ex tended trip over the cast, will return today. H. F. Davidson, president of the Davidson Fruit Co., is epxected back tomorrow afternoon. He has been at Chicago to attend the convention of the Nations 1 Apple Shippers.The Davidson Co. has already been making express shipments to the Alaskan trade. Job Sheppard, one of the leading orchardists of the Duke Valley region, was called by death Sunday. Mr. Sheppard, who was a native of Eng land, came to Houd Kiver valley about four years ago. He was formerly a resident, of Indiana. Ilo was torn April 9, lf-fl. After funeral services the remains were buried yesteiday at Idlewiid cemetery. Death resulted from a kick frrr. a horse last week. Mr. .Sheppard had started to mount the animal, when he swung around and f truck out with both feet, breaking Mr. Sheppard's leg. Taylor Home Burns The home of Fred H. Ta.lor in the Oak Grove district near the Wickham place was destroyed by fire Tuesday night of last week. Two of Mr. Tay lor's little girls were placed in serious danger by the flames. Jack Couchman, an employee of the Farmers' Irrigating Co. came to Mr. Taylor's rescue and assisted in saving a portion of the fur niture. An insurance policy of $181)0 partly covers the loss. The fence in question is that separating the Peter Hinrichs estate and the farms of George W. Hrown, .Mary E. Galliger and Ida II. Mercer. The court decided in favor of the latter, the defendants, and that the Hinrichs fence was across the line too great a distance. Mr. and Mrs. V. S. lloyd.J.if Spo kane, who were among the guests at the Commercial club luncheon Satur day, say they greatly enjoyed a splen did chicken dinner. This is their first visit to Hood River and they are en thusiastic in their admiration of the scenic beauties of the city and valley and their wonder at tho great apple crops seen everywhere. Mr. McKay, who was principal of the Kslama, Wash., high school lust winter, has been taking a ' summer course at tne University of California.
