C Lofts PHONE 310-X Hunting geese in the grain fields j near Arlington is said by those who i have gone from here to be about the ; best sKrt to be had in the Northwest. J However, three Hood River citizens i have had but little to say of their quest ! of the big birds. About three weeks ago B. E. Duncan, J. H. Heilbronner I and Noah Bone journeyed to Arlington, j They had dreamed weeks before hand I of clouds of geese flying above them, ! as they shot from their, pits, and tlrop i ping in piles around them as their 'choke-buns cracked until the barrels became hot. On arriving at the city of the goose country they secured a guide, who took them to a point where he said they should dig a pit. The enthusiastic hunters doffed their shotting jackets, grasped picks and spades and securing the services of the guide at $2 00 per lay and doing their work under his direction, before night settles down on the district, bad completed one or me largest excavations ever seen in the Arlington community. With nervous haste the morning after, they rushed to the pit. It was cold and frosty and mxiously, though shivering a Dil. mey awaited the (light of geese that nau been promised by their guide. Ihe morning passed, noon came, the wait continued, but the geese continued to fly in the distance, merely visible to their eyes. It was not until late even ing that the party gave up in disgust and sought other quarters, where it is truthfully asserted they got a goose or two apiece. while returning home a kina irienu, who had also been shooting in the Arlington district and who was return- nig burdened wun nonKers, genuy broke the news to them that they had dug a cellar for their guide. Recent visitors to the region declare tnai a cot) little home is now rising over the excavation dug by the Hood River goose hunters. The Arlington gram men are sore that the siory has leaked out: for others of them aie planning to build next year. Ihcy had tond dreams ot securing the excavations ror their basements, by the same process, from visiting hunters. Western Union Plans New Cable Service. Theodore N. Of course they may be tiled before SuturdH.v but they will not be delivered until Tuesday. Both cable letters and week end letters will be written in plain English language. "I est On Earth." 1 This is the verdict of K. J. Howell. Tracy, O., who bought Foley's Honey and Tar Compound lor his wile, "ilei case was t he worst I have ever seen, and .ooked like a sure case of consumption: Her limns weie sore and she coughed almost incessantly anil her voice was hoarse- and weak. A letter received from Enoch Bray foid. who recently left here, states that he left New York, last week aboard the Mauretania for Livepool. Mr. Bravford -petit Sunday, December 10, at Munhall, Pa., with his sister at that place and filled the local pulpit there. The followinc is taken from the naner of that uluce: "Rev. Enoch Bravford, of Hood Rive, Ore., who is visiting his Bister, Mrs. Josenh Hudson, of W'hitaker, will occupy the pulpit of the Munhall M. E. church, Sunday morning and evening.
