Manager Chapman believes the scheme would prove the best possible means of interesting colonists who reach Oregon at that time. Exhibits would be gathered from all the orchard districts of the state and the'exhibits would be not particularly fruits but of the land itself and how it is cultivated, giving the prospective settler an object lesson in the care of the land and the successful methods of tillage. It is thought the show will be partic ipated in generally by the whole state and will give each section an opportun ity to display its advantages. Such an exposition would not only bring sett lers but would also educate those already here and influence town people to settle in the rural districts. A quarantine against Oregon cattle will, it is intimated, be declared by the Federal Government unless rigid inspection is enforced against the cattle of the Klamath and Lake County ranges, reported to be infected with mange. According to official reports that have been sent to the Chief of the Bureau of Animal Industry at Wash ington there are between 13,000 and 14,000 cattle thus ah"ected in Lake County alone. John D. Plans Adopted that will Necessitate Con siderable Activity in Street Im provement Work this Year Pasco, Wash., April 2".i (Specinl)- Pasco stands for progress. Last night the Cuuncl awarded contracts that pro vide ior tne lmmeuiate paving and im provement of the main street of the city. For some months the Council Com mittee has. been busy with tiips of in vestigation to varions cities of the Pacific Northwest for the purpose of determining the most desirable kind of paving for use in this clinate. ineir report covered wine experiences by various cities, with concrete, asphalt, hassam, westrurmte, bitu- lithic. brick and wood blocks. The committee reported unanimously in fa vor of bitulithic. Unis were received from companies, representing most of the pavements above named. Prices varied considerably, a number being offered for less per square yard than bitulithic, but in view of the favorable reports in the towns where this form of pavement has been tested for a long period of years, it was considered that bitulithic is unquestionably the cheap est in the long run.
