L,ast week we intended to note Udell's Thanksgiving offering to the uoys s ana bins' Aid Society of Port land. I here were eleven boxes of apples, seven sacks of potatoes, twen ty-one quarts of fruit and jelly and several packages of clothing and sev eral dollars in cash. Connaway Mer cantile Co. delivered the goods at the depot in Hood Kiver in time to reach their destination before Thanksgiving way. Mrs. A. D. Davies passed away in Portland last week and the bodv was taken to the old home in Wisconsin for interment. A. D. Davies, the husband or the deceased, and O. F. Lehrkind, the brother, accompanied the remains. They took with them the infant son, who at so early an age is motherless. Though this family had been residents of Odellbut a few months all sincerely sympathize with those berett. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Lyman and little daughter, Gladys, and Mr. Lyman's sister, Pearl, all of Washougal, Wash, spent Thanksgiving with Mrs. Ly man's parents, Rev. and Mrs. T. W. Atkinson. They remained over until Wednesday of this week before return ing to their home. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lewis spent Thanksgiving Day in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Hilt, of Port land, came up for a Thanksgiving Dcy visit with Mrs. Hilt's parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Lewis. The family of W. C. Ehrck are in quarantine for scarletina or scarlet fever. Bertha Lafferty was quite ill last week, but now enjoys almost her usual health. Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Bowerman and family are now at home in their ele gant new residence. Mr. Ensminger and family are occu pying the house formerly the home of Mr. Bowerman and family and owned by Mr. Bowerman. Mr. and Mrs. Weinheimer and son, Albert, of Iowa, left last week for winter in California. Mr. anil Mrs. Weinheimer and Mr. and Mrs. Gill spent the summer in Hood River val ley, visiting at the homes of W. L Sheirbon and V. A. Crow, and they ex pect to spend the whiter in California. 0. II. Erhck won first on Ortley's at the Apple Fair in Hood River last week. Guy F. Smith won first on Ar kansas Blacks at the same time and place. Mr. Smith also exhibited some hne Ortleys. Electricians from Portland are here wiring for electric lights about Odell. A bad check artist has been at work, I . vy. Atkinson having found a forged check among those returned to him with his statement from the bank. Craw, of Portland, j attended the Apple Fair in Hood . Kiver rrulay. She caame out to Odell Saturday and attended to some busi ! ness matters connected with Odell property owned by Mr. and Mrs. Craw. Mr. Arthur Craw, of Portland, visit j ed Hood River and Odell Saturday. This was Mr. Craw's first visit to Hood River and he whs miwh im pressed with the apple industry and Hood River methods. Mr. and Mrs. Fred McNeill, of the Home Telephone Co's. office at Odell, have resigned, their resignation to take effect December 1st. Mr. and Mrs. Langley Stevenson have arrived and Mr. Stevenson will act as lineman and Mrs. Stevenson as night operator. Mr. and Mrs. McNeill will go to Sheridan, Ore., where they will occupy and improve a valuable property they have purchased. Mr. and Mrs. McNeill have been residents of Odell about one vpnr nnrl the, bono been faithful and obliging employes of the Home Telephone Co., and have many friends who will wish them suc cess in the new home. Mr. and Mrs. Howell Me Bull Run, have many friends in the valley who will be sorrv to hear that trances, the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Metcalf, is believed to be sull'ering from scarlet fever. George, the little son, has been very ill and at this writing is very weak. Mr. and Mrs. B. T. Y Gladys Crosby, went to Portland Fri day for a week's visit with relatives. The old nieghbors have all gone anu rars. uouson is almost a stranger here now. She left for her home Satur day. Kay U-eson is in the hospital at Mood River. He underwent an onera tion for a gland on his eyelid. He is getting along nicely and will soon b out home again. The social given at the school house last Fridav was a success. Wp uwm surprised to see what the children could do. Their work spoke well for their teachers, who trained them, and each one did his part right and at the right time. The house was nicely aecorateu and looked cheerful. The baskets were well sold and the returns were a little over $44. This is to get a flag and pictures and other things neeuea lor the school. lne Sunday school was small last Sunday on account of the weather Let us all turn out and gt up a pro gram for Christmas and have another good time. Ore.. spent Thanksgiving with Miss Lam bert, our school teacher. The medal that was offered to the scholar who spoke the best at the en tertainment last Friday evening was won by Eugene Redfield. They all spoke well and it was a difficult task for the judges to decide. This medal was a reward from Miss Lambert. BARRETT. OAK GROVE People in this neighborhood were -wmewhat surprised upon arising Sun day morning to find about a foot of snow covering the ground. This is the first heavy fall of the year. W. E. King spent the past two weeks in Portland. Mr. Vinton and family, of Under wood, Wash., spent Thanksgiving at the home of H. M. Cummins. Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Dyer departed last week for Portland. The latter proceeded thence to San Francisco for an extended visit and the former re mained in Portland for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Albright spent Thanksgiving with relatives in Port- ind. Mr. and Mrs. 0. T. Wedemeyer and Miss Anna Pregge returned last week from Portland. Jay Armstrong came down last week from Portland to spend Thanksgiving with his sister,Mrs. Harry M. Francis.
