Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Shelley, of Sandy, are here for a visit with Mr. Shelley's parents, Rev. and Mis. Troy Shelley and other relatives and friends. Mr. Shelley is spending his vacation in this way. Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Zellcr returned Saturday from a visit with relatives and friends. Alex Lacey, who spent more than a year here and returned to his home in Newfoundland, is now in the pro vince of ; Saskatchewan. He expects to go to Edmonton and next spring he plans to return to Udell. J. R. Crosby has purchased a new piano, a fine instrument. Mrs. J. J. Krumenacher is at home recovering from a recent surgical operation. She spent two weeks at a hospital in Portland. The property mentioned in last week's Glacier as sold bv J.O . ttold- waithe and known as the "Annie Laurie" orchard, is located in Odell. Clinton Wood went to Mosier Sun day. From there he expects to make a business visit near The Dalles. Mrs. Wm. Ehrck is improving nicely and indications are that she may be re moved to the home of one of her daughters in Portland within two weeks. The many Odell friends of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Dethman, were sorry to hear of their thrilling experience last Saturday on the East Side grade. All are very glad to know that they are believed to have escaped with compar ative minor injuries. When the awful possibilities of such a fall are taken into consideration, we believe this is by far the worst accident caused by an auto in this valley. Samuel Wood, who has been visiting relatives at the home of Mrs. Matilda Wood expects to leave soon for a visit with his mother at the old home in Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. Howell Metcalf, of Bull Run, have many friends in the valley who will be sorry to hear that their little boy is ill with infantile paralyses. Mr. and Mrs. (luy Talmage and their little daughter, Rosalie, expect to leave Boon to spend the winter at Sandy. Mrs. W. P. Kemp expects to' go to Rupert, Ida., this week for a visit with her mother, Mrs. Hattie Crockett, and other relatives. Guy F. Smith met with a painful accident last week and suffered severe pain in the eye as a result. A substantial house and barn arc being built on the Galligan property west of the Hawthorne & Ferguson property. The first copy of the school paper appeared last week and it shows pains taking work by the management and is credit to the school. The paper will be issued every six weeks and will be welcomed by interested patrons of the school. E. T. Folts returned last week from several weeks stay in the Willamette valley, whither he went on Dusiness. j ctober C. L. business meet ing and social Wednesday evening of last week was a very eniovable affair. A program musical except for a read ing by Marie Gould was an entertain ing feature of the evening. Geo. Hascall, of Hood River, was out at his place last Monday. Kenneth McKay had a verv badlv bruised and swollen hand last week. He went to Hood River Saturday to secure medical treatment. Jack Roberts and brother, made a business trip to the county seat Satur day. Mr. Schrum, who moved his family to Hood River some time ago. was back last week looking after his potatoes. Potato digging is the order of the day in the valley now. Some parties report a better crop than they expected. Messrs. Durham and Mavberrv. were out on a hunting trip near Green Point last week. 1 heir wives spent a few days at The Dalles during their absence. The chipmunks evidently i ntended to use the stove for winter quarters, which was left in J. W. Scott s tent during their absence this summer, as it was found well filled with acorns. besides containing a cozy nest. B. Wuth, who was in Portland, re turned the latter part of the week. Mrs. Wuth, who was with him, went on to Astoria to visit her father, who is the Episcopalian rector there. John F. Dodson is in the vallev harvesting his apples and potatoes. Job Sheppard is putting in a gaso line pump to hoist the water from his well, which is under the hill, and put it to the house. The apple growers have all got their crop gatnered and in the dry. This has been an ideal fall for gathering apples. Ray Creson went to Portland last Saturday on business. The Duke's Valley school is talking ot giving an entertainment on Thanks giving to get a flag and other things that are .needed at the school. Sunday School next Sundav.
