HOOD Outplayed throughout the game, the Mount Hood baiketball team met with a deleat of 30 to 7. last Friday night at tbe rink, when they tried to compete with the IHgb School toys ot tbla city, lbe occasion did not draw a very large orowd but tbe few that were tbere gave some high school yella that cheered tbe player greatly. At flrst tbe visitor Iput up a fairly good light but Bhisoon as our own speedy little players got warmed up tbere waa s'uiply nothing to it. Although tbe ball ofteu came within a foot of dropping in tbe basket toi tbe visitors. During tbe first half tbe clubmen were unfortu nate in not making a basket from the Held and tbey only made two from tbe foul Hue. The second ball waa similar to tne first with tbe exception of tbe upper valley boya making two basket from the Held and one Irom tbe foul liue. Jobnson, wbo played right forward made oue basket during the tlrst bait and three during tbe second, but dis tinguished himself in other ways by breaking up plays, etc Hartley made all tbe baskets from tbe foul line and five from the Held. Young played exceptionally well lor a oenter and made live baskets, most of which were made by picking tbe ball up out of scrimmages and throwing It in tbe dog catcher's mit. It is learned from Dr. Watt that tbe purchase wa made for tbe pur pose ot developing tbe tig power re source ut this point In the river and that a company has been Jformed and paper of incorporation filed. The name of the new company i tbe Watt Development oompany and in it in addition to Dr. Watt nod bis father there are several Poitland men wbo he Is not at present prepared to name. It ia staled that the amount ot pow er that cau be utilized from tbe pres eut plant is about 1,000 horeepower which will be Improved almost im mediately aud a loon a condition warrant it will be brought to tbla city to be utilized in any way tbere ia a demand for it Tbe total amount ot power wbiob can be developed ia thought to be be tween 8,000 and 10,000 horsepower and tbe oompany ba had a preliminary survey made wbiob outlines a plan to use the entire amount ot water pass ing through the river for two miles above aud at this point. Panton of Portland, who recently through Mr. Long sent a box of Hood River apple lo bis mother In Blesslngton, Ireland, say ing that the fruit arrived In prime oondition.
