With the rotes of six statement
men, the four anti-statement mem
bers of the Multnomah county legisla
tive delegation Sunday effected organ
ization by eleotlong Senator John li.
Colfey, one of tboir un ruber, chair-
mua of the delegation. Mr. Colfey
defeated E. J. Jaeger, Statement Kep-roscntative-elect
and chairman ot the
organization ot the statement mem
bers of the Houne already formed, by
a vote of 10 to 7. The six statement
men tc go over to the antis for the
purpose cf suppoiting Colfey are said
to have been: Senator A. A. liailey
and Kepretentatives-elect J. D. Ab
bott, F. J. Urady, W. J. Clemens, U
M. Davis aud C. J. McDonald.
D. D. Mahoue, a Statement Kepre
sentative-elect, was elected secretary
over J. D. Abbott, another Statement
mau, by the close vote of 9 to 8. Sev
enteen ot the 20 members of the dele
gation attended the meeting. The ab

The Woman's Club .
November 25th the club omitted the
usual program and held just a buei
uess meeting. The delegates to the
convention ot the Oregon Federation
of Women Clubs, made their re
ports. They were met at the depot
by a delegation of ladies, ihe meet
ings, they stated! were very en joyable.

show that much good work is being
done along many dittereut lines.
Voting women who are working to set
an eduoatiou and need assistance are
loaned money, witboti interest, from
the scholarship loan fund. Three new
clubs have joined the federation this
year. Next year the convention
meets at Forest Grove.
News Notes of Current Doing
It has been predicted that the great
Y. M. C. A. movement which resulted

The murder of Fisher, who is said
to have been a man ot tine character
aud exemplary habits as told by the
Journal is as follows:

derer, who was being held by Dr. K.
Kelly, Dr. W. A. Kobei ts and Mr.
Dolpb. Fincb was taken into tbe
room where bis victim lay dead upon
the floor, bis bead in a thickening
pool of blood, and allowed to view
bis work. But be expressed no re
gret at what be had done, took no in
terest iu tbe body ot tbe man whose
vigorous aud useful lite be bad a few
minutes before snufted out. His only
thought was for himself.
" 'Send for tbe sheriff, send for the
sheriff,' be implored, evidently tear
ing that the wrath of tbe crowd
might demand bis summary punish
ment for the cowardly murder."
Tbe motive wh'ob prompted Finch
to shoct Fisher is said to be on ao
oouut of the fact that tbe latter wbo
was prosecutor for the bar association
of Portland instituted tbe proceedings
that caused his disbarment from prac
ticing bis profession.
Tbe assassin's law partner, C. JH.
Piggott, wbo will represent Finob In
court, declares that tbe direot cause
ot tbe shooting was tbe breaking of
laitb by tbe dead prosecutor in an
agreement between bim aud Finob
oonoeruing the prosecutiou of the dis
barment proceedings against tbe lat
ter. Mr. Piggott turtbemore ex
pressed the opinion that Finch was
not in his right mind and bad been
in a dazed condition for seveial days
prior to tbe tragedy.

Whereas, Mr. Kalpb B. Fisber, late
of Portland, aud a worthy member of
the bar of tbla state, has become the
victim of a cowardly and vicious as
sassin; and
Whereas; tbe apparent reason lor
such unprecedented and cowardly
deed was that tbe deceased bad tbe
courage of bis convictions and dared
to stand for tbe right:
Whereas, the state has been depriv
ed ot a useful citizen; a wife and
child have been deprived of an affec
tionate husband und father, and tbe
Bar of tbe State ot Oregon, of a just,
conscientious and able member:
Now therefore, be it resolved by tbe
Hood Kiver County Bar Association;
That this association does deeply de
plore this cowardly and unprovoked
assasssination ot an official for the
honest discharge ot bis duty ;
