Mr. and .iis Hailey weie married on October 12th, 18.')8 at Columbus City, Iowa. Ibe former mks horn iu Orleans county, Vermont, March, 31, 18110 aud bis wife in Muiwl couuty Ohio, Oct. 5tb, 1810. For twenty year they lived at Columbus City after they were married and fur Dine years in other parts ot the state. From there tbey weut to Missouri wl ere tbey stayed three years, after wnrds speudiug seven years lu tbe Cherokee Strip. Their borne state then again attracted them for a time and later tbey went to live in Kansas City. From theie tbey ouoa more tinned their steps toward Missouri where tbey lived until 1K05 when they ramo to Hood River. During their residence here they both became well known aud highly esteemed and re spected. As a member of the city council for three years Mi. Uailey served the city intelligently and faith fully. Recently Mr. Railey bought a borne in Portland oo Coiou Avenue where be aud bis wile will make their home lu future. All the shows, enter tainments and other amusements that were at Tbe Dalles witb a few excep tions, are here to provide entertain ment for the visitors and make things lively and tbe streets are gaily decor ated witb flags and bunting. Already many strangers have arrived to partic ipate in tbe festive occasion in whioh apple will be king. The managers ot the fail association request residents ss far as possible to decorate tbelr homes in honor ot the occasion and buslnness houses also. Word has been received tbat there will be many exhibits this year and Tbe Dalles which has never been rep resented at Hood River before will ' send down a fruit exhibit ot peaches and grapes that will oucupy a space of 30 feet. Tbe committee from tbe Hood River commercial club which went to Port land to invite members of thePortland Commercial Ciub and citizens there generally to tbe fair reports that sev eral hundred ot them have signified their Intention ot being present. A big reception committee bas been ap pointed to look after visitors aud see that they are properly taken care of and iu addition to tbe accomodations provided by tbe hotels and restau rants, several it tbe church aid soci eties will provide meals aud lodging for the visitors. Automobiles will be put in service to transport those who want to take a ride over the valley and special trains will be run on tbe Mount Hood Rallrod for tbe accommodation ot those living In tbe valley and fair vis itors also. Ou Saturday a special train will be run from Portland at a specially re duced fare giving tbose wbo oome from that oity the privilege of remain ing over until Sunday before return ing borne. During tbe fair there will be a bal loon asoeusion each day and other special attractions. Musio will be furnished by tbe Hood Kiver Band and the entertainment committee la arranging amusements to entertain the people in tbe evening. Any person, nrm, asso ciation or corporation engaged in growing selling or packing green fruits ot any kind within tbe state ot Oregon, shall be required upon pack ing any suob fruit lor market, whether Intended tor sale within or without the state of Oregon, to stamp, mark or label plainly on the outside ot ev ery box or package of green fruit ao packed the name ana postoince ad dress of tbe person, firm, association, cr corporation packing toe same; provided further, that when tbe grow er ot such iruit ue otner man toe packs ot tbe same, tbe name and post otrloo address ot suob grower shall also prominently appear upon such box or package as tbe grower of suob fruit. Section it shad oe uniawiui ior any dealer, commission mercnant, shipper or vender, by means of any false repeseutations whatever, either verbal, printed or written, to repesent or pretend tbat any fruits mentioned in seotion 1 ot this act, were raised, produced or packed by any person or corporation or lu any locality wbero tbe same were in fact raised, produced or packed, as tbe case may be. Section 3. It any dealer, commis sion merchant, shipper, vender or other person, shall have in his poses siou any of such fruits so falsely marked or labeled contrary to tbe provisions of seotion 1 ot this act, the poeession by suob dealer, commission merchant, , shipper, vender, or other person, of any such fruits so falsely marked or labeled shall be prima facie evidence tbat suob dealer, com mission merobant, shipper, vender, or other person, bas so falsely marked or labeled suob fruits. Seotion 4. Any persons violating any of the provisions of this act shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof, shall be puuisbed by a fine of uot less than 15 nor more than SG0, or by imprison ment iu the couuty jail not less than teu nor more than one hundred days, or by botb suob tine aud imprison ment, at the discretion of tbe court.
