HOOD RIVEB GLACIER THURSDAY. JANUARY?, THE OLD MAN'S CHRISTMAS PRESENTS. An' thar the gala wuz in a row a-blushin' left an' right, The old man in the center, an' six o' us in sight! An' we knowed jest what wuz comin'--an' we knowed 'twuz comin' quick, Fer the old man says: "It's Christmas, boys. Whirl in an' take yer pickl" Well, 1 took eweet Miss Liza, an' John took Mandy Jane, An' Jim said he'd take Laura fer thie world's shine or rain, An' so on till wo'd been supplied, then said: "We're 'bleeged ter you. But, with all yer daughtera give away, what air you goin' ter do?" An' then the old man winked at me an' whispered mighty low! I'm a-goin' ter marry a widder, an' wanta 'em out the wayl" Atlanta Constitution. "BIG TIM'S" BOUNTY. Six Thousand Bowery Waifs Eat Sul livan'a "Turkey and Fixin's." Mnrp thnn 6.000 unfortunates of Bowery existence were fed last Christ mas day out of the bounty of "Big Tim" Sullivan. Tbe feast was spread at the rooms of tbe Timothy D. SulU run nRsorlatlon at 207 Bowery, New- York city. . Before sunrise the crowds began to cather. By 10 o'clock tbe throng rpnehed from block to block, and then the feast began. The men were al lowed in by relays of 300 each, and while these were feeding the others waited their turn. While there were all sorts of men In the line-old. young, middle aged, the blind, the lame and the halt the domi nant note which all proclaimed was poverty in its most pinching form. Tbe majority of them had no overcoat, ami the biting cold made them shiver and stamD their feet to try to keep warm, There were thirty policemen on hand to keep the line, but they bad little to do. Tbe cripples were given the prefer with no word of protest from their more fortunate fellows. The dinner was tbe personal gift of "Big Tim," and out of his purse there were provided 5.000 loaves or tireaa 1,500 pounds of turkey, 1,000 pounds of fhioL-on 1.000 no'.mds of duck, 7.000 tiles, eight barrels of potatoes for sal nd. 10.000 cups of coffee and thirty kees of beer. As each man filed out he was handed a pouch of tobacco, a pipe and a ticket for a pair of shoes. "Little Tim" Sullivan was the master of ceremonies. Feast to 1,400 Newsboys. At the forty-sixth annual dinner of the Newsboys Lodging House, 14 New Chambers street New York city, 1,400 newsboys and their guests were serv ed with Christmas turkey. The ban quet was given by' William M. Flelss, following an observance by his father, who entertained the newsboys each Christmas lor forty-tlirea years.
