Great excitement existed son, Wash., Monday of occasioned by the arrest at Steven last week, of Frank Clark, charged with breaking into G. N.Woodward's house and taking va rious articles. The articles were found under and outside of Clark's house in Stevenson while he was absent at Hood Riyer, and consiested of one napkin and one table-cloth. In the preliminary examination he was held in $50' bonds, which was put up in cash, and the trial set for Wed nesday. Mrs. Woodward went down from Hood River Tuesday to identify the goods. Wednesday morning Wood ward was reported to be violently in sane, but in the atternoon had recov ered his mind. The trial was set for Wednesday, but after examining the witnesses for the prosecution the jus tice dismissed the case, saying it would be a farce to carry it further. Clark's friends claim it was a put up job to blacken his character. The Pioneer says: "i ranK UiarK lias always norn a good reputation in this community and has considerable property to show for his years of labor and rustliug en ergy." Valley Improvement Co. There was a very fair attendance at the stockholders' meeting of the Valley Improvement Co. Thursday of last week, considering that a good many were getting ready for the fair. The report of the secretary showed a float ing debt of about $2,800; those to whom it is due declining to accept the short time bonds issued by the company. In addition to this there must be an ex penditure of $1,000 to place the lateral ditches in condition to supply the 500 inches, which it is confidently expect ed will be sold next year. Afierathor ough discussion of ways and means to lift this debt, or that part which Is most pressing, the company unan imously authorized the secretary to sell 100 inches of water by perpetual right at the rate or o per inch, the holder to pay si per lncn annually tnerearter tor expense on the ditch. Evidently this proposition is going to take with the farmers, as the secretary informs us he hud orders for 15 inches before he left the ball. . A few weeks ago theedltor was taken with a very severe cold that caused bim to be in a most miserable condi tion. It was undoubtedly a bad caseof la grippe, and recognizing it as danger ous, he took immediate steps to bring about a speedy cure. From the adver tisementof Chamberlain's Cough Rem edy and the many good recommenda tions included therein, we concluded to make a first trial of the medicine. To say that it was satisfactory in its re sults is putting it very mildly, indeed. It acted like magic, and the result was a speedy and fermanentcure. We have no hesitancy in recommending this ex cellent Cough Remedy to any one af flicted with a cough or cold in any form. The Ban tier of Liberty, Libertytown, Md.
