Concrete for Farm II In many sections concrete building. are being constructed on farms, and that they are likely to be desirable la probable Just as soon as builders have a little more experience In construct' Ing them. At present It Is safer to confine one'a operations In concrete to floors, and that there ought to be more concrete floors In farm buildings there Is no doubt They msy be quite ex. pensive in the first cost but they t the cheapest floors In the end If prop erly constructed. There need be no elaborate selection of material, simply the best cement sharp aand (not Bandy soil) and small, sharp atouea in the proper quantity. The foundation ground should be hard and level. Then make the mix ture of sand and cement three parts sand to one part of cement stirring the mass thoroughly until It Is uniform In color. It Is Important that the aand and cement be thoroughly mixed. Then supply the stones and mix all again, doing It thoroughly. There ahould be about five times the bulk of the cement In stones. The mass should be well wet so that It will readily slide off the shovel when placed In position. Then fix a tamper, having It full ten Inches wide each way a board' nailed In the end ef a three by three strip makes a good tamp and pound the mass until the water appears even ly on the surface. Be careful in going over it the last time and get It aa level as you desire it Let the mass dry for from three to five days and the Job Is done. Egg by the Million. The western part of Virginia has been known for years as a great sec tion for raising poultry, and the In dustry 1 Increasing at a rapid rate. The shipment of Thanksgiving turkey and chickens for all seasons brings In a considerable revenue; In Rocking ham county last year, 30,000 crates wore shipped to market a total of 10, 800,000 eggs cold from one county in a single year. This docs not include many thousands consumed on the farms where they were laid. The low est price of the year was 14 to 15 cents a dozen, and in December 32 cents was paid. The average for the last year was 22 cents. The profit from eggs alone to Rockingham county farmers was nearly $200,000. Fampa Water Into Golden Gate Park In 80 Francisco. The largest windmill In the United State, If, indeed, not the largest In the whole world, has receutly been con structed near San Francisco. This gigantic mill Is located directly on the ocean beach, near the famous seal rocks. It Is used for pumping water up Into Golden Gale Park. The huge, strong wooden tower sup porting the wind arms rises 130 feet It Is 40 feet oquare at the base, se curely anchored and gradually tapers upwsrd, assuming a round shape. There are four Immense wooden arms, or vanes. Each arm measure 80 feet from the center or hub thus making a diameter of ICO feet in de scribing the circle. The wind vanes are 6 feet wide and extend nearly the entire length of the huge arms. This windmill la located upon a prominent elevation, so that It may catch every available wind arising In that section. This colossal windmill Is capable of developing SO-horse power. Its pump ing capacity Is 200,000 gallons of wa ter every twenty-four hours. The water is taken from the wells and forced through a large Iron main aixteen inches in diameter, for nearly four miles up Into an Immense reser voir several hundred feet higher than the ocean beach. From this reservoir the water la distributed in all direc tions through the park. During the dry, hot season the arms of this giant windmill are kept whirl ing day and night to supply the thirsty demand.. As the mill stands on the wide, open bench, there is rarely, If ever, any lack of wind; In fact the winds ocaslonally blow with such vio lence that the mill Is compelled to be shut down, as It would be risky to at tempt to run it during a fierce gale.
