There is a foolish theory that going barefoot I 'spread' the foet and makes them larger. Nothing can be further from the fact It gives the feet natural growth and shape, fills them with com pact, welt-knit muscle, makes them healthy and efficient and has tendency to leave them small, just as good muscle is smaller for the eame strenth than flabby muscle". As to how natural it is to go without shoes and stockings the yearning and craving of the children themselves bear most eloquent witness.
