The chairman then appointed Mrs.
Winnie Bailey and W. A. Young as
tellers.
The convention then proceeded to
elect dt-legaU-s, which resulted in the

There were no special instructions to
the delegates. The State Grange will
convene at Forest Grove Tuesday, May
23, 1KB.
After the adjournment of the connty
grange the members of (Joble Grange
entertained the delegates in a very hos
pitable manner. A banquet was served
one of Uib kind that only granger
can serve. It was enjoyed by all. After
dinner the dilegate and vinitors were
taken to the cold ttorage. This plant
was quite a curiosity to mot-t of thoee
present. The George W. Elder, which
lies on the rocks just opposite the Reu
ben postoffice, -was also visited and there
the divers were seen working at the
great rents in the side of the vessel. The
saw mills and other places of inUrest
came in for their share of inspection.
The delegates were tken taken to the
homes of the grangers and entertained
until time for leaving. Many pleasant
memories will be stored up as to the

With the advent of spring finds the
good people of the Xehalem Valley
busily engaged in seeding and planting
crops. The winter was not a severe one
to the settlers as regards feed for stock,
hence stock of all kind is looking well.
What looked at one time to be a se.ious
matter, the burning ever of so much
slashing last summer an! fall, had not j
seriously affected the stock raiser and
dairyman, and pasture and feed will
now soon be in abundance.
Our dairymen are all engaged in sel
i"g the product of their cows and wag
ons are on tlte go collecting the milk to
be shipped daily to tin creameries.
Thoso of our farmers who have had keen
foresight and embarked in raising mut
ton, are having agents for slaughter
firms come right to their door and offer

Our people live in hope and there
fore are anxious to see what that new
railroad building from Gohle will do for
us. But we depend upon our own ef
forts, therefore we are all doing ht

this section of Columbia countv this lal',
for we p.re all working hard and trying
to produce something. This makes me
want to say a word in favor of the Reg
istcr, which we find is really a county
paper that gives the news and is up to
date. We can not keep house without
it end wish it the best of success.
