6 A FRIDAY. NEW CHURCH The large laminated arches for the new Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 1819 Stewart Ave., were raised recently as construction got under way. The sanctuary will seat 250. To the rear of the sanctuary will be a two-story education unit. The building, expected to be completed by August, 19fH, will be of frame with a brick facing. Pastor of the church is the Hev. H. C. Zweigart, who arrived in the valley in January from Everett, Wash. Apostolic Faith Sets Watch Night A watch night service will be bold Tuesday night at the Apo stolic Faith church. A regular evengelistic service "ill open at 7:30 p. m. with a prelude by members of the 40 pi"cc orchestra and the choir. Personal testimonies will be a part ot the service, followed by n gospel message. The service will continue with other activi ties, including the showing of the film "Seventeen", the story of a girl who dared to bring the wit ness of Christ to her fellow stu dents. Trinity Baptist is scheduling New Year's F.vc activities to Recognition Day For Students Is Set by Methodists Student Recognition Day will be observed at First Methodist Church Sunday at both morn ing worship services. The mes sage on "Church Responsibili ties on College Campuses" will be given by Miss Jeanine James and Larry Kennedy of Southern Oregon College and Mike Phil lips of the University of Oregon. This service gives recognition to students in colleges and uni versities. Participating in the 9:30 a.m. service will be Jay Taylor, Miss Janice Taylor, and Robert Min shall, all of Oregon State Uni versity. Those helping in the 11 a.m. service are Joby Kellogg, Southern Oregon College; Miss Susan Garner, Willamette Uni versity, and Mike H I g g I n s, United States Naval Academy. The church, located on Fifth Street, is next to the present building which Film 'Jerusalem' To Be Shown Tuesday Evening There will be a New Year's Eve service from 9 p. m. to midnight, Dec. 31, at the First Church of the Nazarene, 520 N. Holly St., which will be open to the public. The film, "Jeru salem," produced by World Wide Pictures and narrated by Billy Graham, will be shown. It is an hour-long color mo tion picture and is scored with music composed and conducted by Ralph Carmichael. Following the film presenta tion will be a time of refresh ments and fellowship in the activity building and the closing hour before midnight will be given to song and worship. The pastor, Ihe Rev. Harold M. Sanner, will speak Sunday at the 11 a.m. service on "Christ's Death and My Life." This will be a communion medi tation and the Lord's Supper will be served. Music for the morning serv ice, which is under the direc tion of Perry Christiansen, min ister of music, will be a number by the sanctuary choir and a solo by Elvvin Paulson. The pastor's message for the 7 p. m. service will follow the end of the year tneme on me subject, "New Year and New Hope". Baptist Events Are Announced Pastor Bernard E. Andrews will speak on "Broken Things" at the 11 a.m. service of the First Baptist Church Sunday. The chapel choir under the di rection of Kent Thiclen will sing. Sunday at 7 p.m. Paslor An drews will speak on the subject, "Go And Tell." The educational unit will be to CHURCH NEWS National Religious Publicity Council The series of informal meet ings will be conducted by the Rev. Gilbert Lulay, assistant pastor of Sacred Heart Church and will continue twice weekly approximately until Easter. The night of the second and follow ing meetings will be determined by those present at the first session on Jan. 6. Father Lulay also announced that if a desire and need for it is indicated, an afternoon meeting schedule will be set. Individual sessions will be available for those who find it impossible to attend any of the group meetings. As a guide for discussion the booklet "Life in Christ" will be used. It was written by the Rev. James Killgallon and the Rev. Gerard Weber, priests of the Chicago Archdiocese where much pioneer work has been done in the field of inquiry for ums and similar means of bringing knowledge and under standing of the Catholic Church to others. Copies of the book will be available at the meet ings. It is not necessary for any one to prc-registcr before at tending the Forum nor is it re quired to be present at the com plete series. Father Lulay em phasized that no obligations of any kind are imposed upon those taking part and no charges are made. Holy Hour to Open New Year Tuesday A holy hour in preparation (or Ihe opening of the new year will be held in Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 7:30 p.m. New Year's Eve, accord ing lo the Very Rev. Carl Mai, pastor. On New Year's day the regu lar Sunday schedule o( masses will be followed rather than the Holy Day of Obligation schedule. It is obligatory for all Roman Catholics in the United States to attend mass on New Year Day, the feast of the Cir cumcision of Christ. Father Mai said. Masses will be said at 6. 7, 8:15, 9:30. 10:45 and 12 r.oon and again at 7 p.m. Catechism classes for Catho lic children attending public schools will resume on Satur day, Jan. 4, al 10 a.m., (or grade school sludonts and on Sunday, Jan. 5, at 5:45 p.m. (or high school students. Officers To Be Installed Sunday The newly-elected officers for 1964 will be installed in the 11 a.m. service at St. Peter's Lutheran Church by the pastor, the Rev. John E. Simon.
