Some are planned for students and others for their ciders; some are traditional events held annually by families and groups. Today Jacksonville friends of Robertson Collins are invited to his home for an open house and sherry party. Music will be pro vided by a trin of young men, Wayne Cabler, Edward Graham and .lohn Henderson, who played for a similar event last year. About 70 couples and families are invited. Clowns worn by women attending the an nual Christmas Ball of Medford Junior Serv ice League were of many colors and designs, although the majority were long. Mrs, Arthur A. Ekerson (at left), wore a slim black gown and Mrs. William Patton, Ashland, wore a white taffeta gown with full skirt and a green sash tied into an enormous bow. Since (he hall is always a fancy coiffure and headdress event, Mrs. Kkfrsnn's hair was heavily sil vered, and Mrs. Patton wore a wreath of holly. Mrs. Ekerson was one of the models for a small showing of furs staged by Jean Hart's store. Others were the Mesdames Rich ard Hrnslev. Hilly Illackstonc, Robert Taylor, lames P. Winton, Eagle Point, will he hosls for cocktails and dinner this evening at Mon Desir Dining Inn. About 50 guests are expected. This is the last of a series of two parties which the Wintons have given; the olher was given at the inn last Sunday and about 30 guests attended, An annual holiday event is the winter formal hall of SI. Mary's High School. The dance this year will he held Monday. December 30, at Mon Desir Dining Inn from eight o'clock until midnight. Music will he by Roy Taylor's band and the theme will be "Won derland by Night." Committee chairmen are bay Lewis, program; Mary hay Hochslattcr, chaperones; Kristine Laubachcr, publicity; Robin Ashenberncr, decorations; Pat Fellers and Mike Hutchinson, tickets; Millicent O'Connor, court. Another dance for students is planned at Rogue Valley Coun try Club for Friday. December 27. This will be an informal Teen Agers Hop from H until 11 o'clock. Sons and daughters of Country Club members and their friends in junior and senior high school are invited. Music for dancing will he by the Jaguars and other entertain ment is being planned. Serving on the committee of parents plan ning the party are Dr. and Mrs. Robert Buck, Dr. and Mrs. John .Vatson, Dr. and Mrs. Eugene Meyerding and Mr. and Mrs. Hous ton h. Rush. An open house and Christmas party is announced by Chi Omega Alumnae members, the event to he held Friday, December 27 from 2 to 4 p.m., in the home of Mis. George L. Lewis, 2133 East Jackson Boulevard. All Chi Omega members are invited. Mrs. Lewis will be assisted by her daughter, Miss Diane Lewis, a junior student at the University of Washington, and Mrs. Maury Isled and daughter, Miss Nicki Isted, a junior at Oregon State University. Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Scholl, 180 White Oak Drive, have bidden friends to attend an open house in their home on Christmas Eve. Man Named To Board Robertson Collins has been in vited by the Portland Sym phony Society to become a member of the board of asso ciate directors. Mr. Collins, a member of the Oregon Shake spearean festival Association board and of the Rogue Valley Art Association board, attended his first meeting in Portland last week. The Symphony Society has an advisory board composed of 20 persons, and in addition the 20 person hoard of associate di rectors from throughout the state in such cities as Bend, Salem, Pendleton, The Dalles and Medford. Mr. Collins slates that it is the aim of the society and others Interested to have the or chestra serve the state as a whole rather than being con fined to the Portland area alone. Barnum, who have moved from Lake Os wego, where they made their home for 22 years. The Barnums have purchased a home on Yale Drive in the Bel Air Heights addition and their two sons will join them there for. the holiday season. William L. Barnum Jr., gradu ated Saturday from Oregon State University and is being commissioned a second lieute nant in the Army the same day. His brother, Robert Elliott Barnum, is a junior at Oregon State University. Dr. and Mrs. Barnum are bath graduates of Medford High School and have visited in the valley frequently during the years they have made their home in Lake Oswego. Dr. Rarnum is the son of Mrs. E. N. Eldridge of 235 South Oakdale Avenue, Medford, and Mrs. Bar num. the former Amy Elliott, is the daughter of Dr. B. R. I Elliott of the West Side district. Dr. Barnum, who has been practicing children's dentistry in Portland, will enter practice here after the first of the year. Football Fans To See Games Among valley football enthu siasts who plan to be in El Paso, Tex., December 23 for the University of Oregon-Southern Methodist University Sun Bowl game are Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Smith, 2136 East Jack son Street. During their visit they will be 'taken on a sight-seeing tour in Mexico and attend a New Year's Eve party being ar ranged there for out-of-town visitors. The Smiths are to leave El Paso, December 31 for Pasa dena to attend the Rose Bowl game on January 1. Betrothal News MONTAGUE - Mr. and Mrs. Aage Petersen, Montague, have announced the engagement of their youngest daughter, Carol, to Rex L. Fowler, son of Mr. and Mrs. John J. Fowler, Ar lington, Kan. Miss Petersen attended local schools and was graduated from Yrcka High School, attended College of Siskiyous and a Kan sas college. She is employed by the Treasury Department in San Francisco. Mr. Fowler is em ployed by the U. S. Forest Serv ice as an engineer. The couple plans to be mar ried in the Yreka Methodist Church February 1. The traditional breakfast nf this commandery originated many years ago when George Barron, an Ashland pioneer, made homemade sausage. Be ing an artive Knight Templar, he bad the idea of gathering in fellowship and commemora tion after the Christmas service (or a breakfast ol the sausage. He donated the meat while olher foods were prepared by the knights and their wives. This tradition has been con tinued each year by the com mandery with the spirit of the reason prevailing at the festive tables in the temple. The breakfast this year will be held at 9:30 a.m., in the Crown Room nf the Mark An fun program. That time is the annual Christmas party. This year the newly decorated Crown Room of the Mark Antony Hotel made a festive and colorful background to the tables center ed with Christmas arrange ments and exchange gift pack ages.
