8 A Scores of Whales Drown in Florida PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (UPI) Drawn by some mysterious force of nature, scores of pilot whales charged toward the shore here Sunday and drowned in heavy surf. The air-hreathine mammals, some weighing a Ion, churned the Atlantic Ocean into a Held of white foam as they battled breakers and undertow to reach the beach. Police and volunteers, recall Ing an incident four years ago when a school of 75 pilot whales did the same thing here, aban doned the idea of going into the treacherous waters to try turn back the whales.
