The machine was recently recommended for use in testing interior ply wood samples from regular production runs ut the mills. Use of the machine will cut testing time from three days to one hour. Research Facilities Are Toured TACOMA, Wash. - The Teen nical Services Division of the Douglas Fir Plywood Associa tion scheduled a tour of its re search and quality laboratories recently for its advisory com mittee. The committee is made up of representatives of a num ber of plywood mills in the plywood-producing sections of Ore gon. R. K. Wood, assistant general manager of Timber Products Company, represented the Med ford area on the committee. The committee was set up by AUTOMATION PHOENIX, Ariz. One of Several Groups The Technical Advisory Com mittee is one of several set up to aid in this planning and the first to tour research facilities Coast Shipments Of Lumber Increase PORTLAND (UPI) U.S. Pa cific Coast lumber shipments rose four per cent in the first 10 months of 19fi:i over the same period last year, the Pa- cutc Lumber inspection Bureau reported. But shipments from Western Canada were up 19 per cent. The U.S. Pacific Coast states shipped l,M:i million board feet during the 10 month period com pared to 1,848 million hoard feet shipped from British Columbia. About one-half of (he Canadi an shipments were for the U.S. Atlantic coast and Puerto Rico. since the committees were set up early last spring, according to Technical Services Director John M. Hess. Hess said the group first toured the qualHy control lab oratories to get a first-hand look at the tests made on plywood production. Of special interest to the group were the gluing re search programs, including those related to new, improved and faster test procedures for evaluating glucline quality.
