Bible Sunday

serve Universal Bible Sunday at
First Methodist Church by
preaching on "The Book For To
day," at both morning worship
services.
Mrs, Keith Johnson will be

Song." The youth choir will

The commission on education
will sponsor a family film,
"Hand in Hand," at 6 p.m. Sun
day. This is the story of friend
ship between a Jewish girl and
a Catholic boy in which a near
tragedy actually deepens their
understanding of each other and
their faiths. All members and
friends are invited to bring their
families. A baby sitter will be
available for pre-schoolers and
an offering will be taken to de
fray the cost of the film.
Both the Junior High and
Senior High Methodist Youth
Fellowship groups will join with
the rest of the church to view
the movie. The Senior will then
go to the St. Mark's Episcopal
Church to attend the interde
nominational Singspiration at
7 p.m.
The Board of Trustees will
meet at the Town House Cafe
at 7 a.m. Tuesday for their
monthly breakfast meeting.
The Becomer's Class will have
their family Christmas party in
the basement youth center from

Inducts Members
Thirty-five persons were in
ducted into the Sacred Heart
Unit of the Confraternity of
Christian Doctrine last Sunday
at the annual general meeting
of the group.
The Very Rev. Carl Mai con
ducted the enrollment ceremon
ies which were held in the multi
purpose room of St. Mary's
High School on Black Oak
Drive. Donald Sweeney, who
with Mrs. Jack Batzer was co
chairman for the event, acted
as master of ceremonies at the
afternoon program. A rt h u r
Becker presided at the business
meeting.
Recognition was given the
many persons who aided the
Confraternity program during
the past year, along with an
explanation of each phase of
work involved. Fields covered
were the CCD executive board;
teaching, both grade and high
school; baby-sitting; transporta
tion; discussion cluos; library,
both public and CCD; St. Mar
tha of Rome Society; holy cards
and visual aids; parent-educators;
apostles of good will, now
an endeavor of the Legion of
Mary; newcomers' welcome;
and Christmas cards, the sale
of which is the only source of
income for the CCD.

Have New Pastor
GOLD HILL - The Rev. Wil
liam Stacy, recent pastor of the
Methodist Church in New Mead
ows, Idaho, has been appointed
by Bishop A. Raymond Grant
to serve as pastor of the Gold
Hill Community Methodist
Church.
Mr. Stacy assumed his duties
and gave his first sermon at
the Gold Hill Church on Dec. 1.
Mr. Stacy and his wife, June,
with their daughter, Deidre, 4,
and son, Brad, 3, arrived in
Gold Hill Thanksgiving week
from Idaho. They are residing
in the Methodist Church Par
sonage at 1118 Second Ave.
Mr. Stacy replaces the Rev.
Lochlen L. Gregory, who was
named recently by Bishop Grant
to serve as pastor of the Garcli-ner-Reedsport
Methodist Church.
Mr. Gregory had served as pas
tor of the Gold Hill Church three
years prior to his new appoint
ment about two months ago.
Since Mr. Gregory's leaving
and until Mr. Stacy's arrival
here, the pulpit was filled each
Sunday by guest ministers or
lay speakers.
Mr. Stacy finished his semi
nary at the University of Du
buque at Dubuque, Iowa and
was graduated in 1962.
Prior to pastoring the Meth
odist Church at New Meadows,
Idaho he was pastor of churches
at Colsbcrg and Lamont, Iowa.

give a sermon written by the
Rev. Peter Raible, minister at
University Unitarian Church in
Seattle. Raible is also head of
the Northwest District of the
Unitarian Universalis! Associa
tion and will be here in Janu
ary to address the local fellow
ship. The sermon chosen by George
is titled, "Commitment." Im
mediately following his presen
tation, coffee will be served and
a discussion period will follow.

Bible Lecture Topic
Sunday at the local Kingdom
Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses a
Bible lecture at 4 p.m. entitled,
"Relief From Tension in A
Troubled World" will be given
by a qualified minister. This
talk will answer pertinent ques
tions confronting individuals to
day, and will show how the Bible
can be used as a guide.

in the Christmas series "Prepa
ration in the Great Search,
Finding and Following the In
dwelling Christ."

will sing "I Will Arise and Go"

The Unity choral group will

Monday, Dec. 9, the board of

The prayer ministry will meet
Wednesday, Dec. 11 at U a.m.
at the church. Those attending

lesson for all study classes will

Trinity Starts
Christmas Series
At the 11 a.m. worship of
Trinity Baptist Church Sunday,
Pastor Bruce Rogers will begin
a series of sermons on the
Christmas message. His sermon
Sunday is entitled, "The 'Way'
of the Christmas Message."
Mrs. Lester Merriman will sing
a solo.
Trinity Baptist Church is at
Griffin Creek and South Stage
Roads.
At 7 p.m. a discussion will be
held on the question, "Can a
Christian Become a Castaway?"
This is one of a series of dis
cussions based on I Corinthians,
"God's Workshop, the Church."
The Scripture portion upon
which the above question is
based is I Corinthians 9:23-10:32.

Pacific Northwest Conference
of the Church of the Brethren,
will speak Sunday at the 11
a.m. worship service the Med
ford Church of the Brethren,
345 N. Mary St. His topic will
be "Some Marks of the Lord."
Miss Linda Acord will play a

Sunday, following the wor
ship hour, the deacons and their
wives will meet in the Fellow
ship hall for a potluck dinner
and a businers meeting.
Tonight the Men's Fellow
ship will meet at 7:30 o'clock at
