DliCli.MUlill 6. 13 CENTRAL POINT (Special) Basketball season begins this evening for Crater High School quintets with four games on iwo fronts -at Central Point and Butte Falls. ' Crater's Fireball v a r s i t v makes its bow at 8:15 D.m. liss and Richard Wilson at the guards. He indicated that Bob Colpitts and Bill Ayres will see quite a bit of action. The Eagle mentor said that drills have been spirited. Play ers have been working hard, he reported, and "with a little here against the Eagle Point luck I feel we can give Crater Eaglet. Junior varsities of the two schools clash at 6:30 p.m. At the same time Comet sophomores and freshmen will battle at Butte Falls against the Logger varsity and jayvee teams. Crater's top line aggregation and the frosh see only single game rivalry this week end. But the jayvees and sophomores vie again on Saturday. They en tertain the Rogue River High No. 1 crew and payvees. Rogue River is at Glendale tonight. Coach Lloyd Hoffine said he plans to select his Comet start ers from among Vern Swanson, Iike Turner. Bob Turner, Dar Vyl Summerfield and Larry Pepper. New Edition This will be a brand new edi tion of the Fireballs although Summerfield is a letterman of Iwo year's standing and the jTurners and Stroh did get into Some varsity games last year. Two members of the squad, vho have been handicapped by Jootball injuries, are coming long and doing a good job in drills, Hoffine said. They are "Dave Twedcll, who hurt his 3nee bcfonthe grid slate began and Dcnny'llyerson who suffer ed ankle injuries during the Tall. . I Hoffine ' indicated that both should see duty during the week nd. In fact, he has a 12-man trew of even ability and hopes Jo get alt 12 into the game. The conflict with the Eagles continues a long rivalry which 1egan when both schools were Jn I lie Class B ranks. i This is the third year that ieams coached by Hoffine and "Eagle Point's Dale Bates have Jnet. Crater has won on two occasions. Eagle Crew Bales has reported a probable jnponing five of 6-5 Lonnie Mes Jnli and Woutcr Leewenburgh at the posts and Richard Anderson, Frank Charley and Bob Cor real ball game." He added that "we'll hustle and scramble all 32 minutes. The Eagles have been work ing at development of defensive patterns and at perfecting de fensive skills. Eagle Point, unlike the Crater varsity, has double duty this week end. The Eagles play on Saturday evening against Doug las High at Winston. Bowling , .1 LUCKY STRIKIillS I.
