4 D Hints Given on Making Christmas Card List Those gay Christmas cards ' that decorated mantel and mir ror and tree can serve a prac , tical purpose when you take them down. That is the best time - and they are the simplest means for making up your 1964 Christ mas card list. If the list is re vised now. while new names and addresses are readily at hand, the addressing of cards next Christmas will be almost effortless. For those to whom maintain ing a list is a problem in itself, tne card maxer oners a num ber of easy solutions, some 01 which are avauaoie in stores and others hand-fashioned at home. If your list runs to several hundred people and you must of necessity be meticulous aooui it, then probably the best sys tem is to post tne names ana addresses on file cards and in dex them in a small file box. An advantage of this system is that the cards offer ample space to jot down information about tne person and his family as It is : received during the year. For those with shorter lists, the personal telephone directory is a handy reference. A tiny check mark beside a name may be used to indicate that you two exchanged cards the previous Christmas. A second mark could be used for those to whom you send gifts. Hallmark, as well as other greeting card firms prepare date books each year which are ideally suited for compiling Christmas address lists. The date book is part calendar and part address pad, and here again there's a place on which to note birthdays, annivers aries and other special occa sions of the coming year. These are available without cost at stationery counters ia stores. For a romantic-looking gift, paste a paper doily in center of package that has already been wrapped; cut second doily to fit corners of box. THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 1963 MiiUKOUD MAIL TKIHL.Nt:. Be a sugar plum fairy this holiday season. For a Christ mas gift any family will enjoy, make a sugar plum tree. It will add a warm, festive note to the Yuletide celebration. Use a real or artificial tree about two feet tall and hang it with brightly frosted Christmas cookies, garlands of cranberries and tinted popcorn, fruit can dies tied with ribbon, and can dy-dotted popcorn balls. Top it with a star-shaped cookie a gleam with silver candies. Miss Alice Hutchinson, head of the home economics depart ment of The R. T. French Com pany, packers of spices, herbs, and extracts, suggests that a cookie tree be used as a deco ration for the front hall during the holidays. Guests can be in vited to nibble on the decora tions. (Keep extra cookies on hand to replace disappearing ones, sne suggests.) The "goodie tree" If so easy to make that even the children can help. In fact, they'll prob ably want to. Put them to work str'Dging the cranberries and popcorn, which go on first. (For extra color, tint the pop corn by sprinkling with diluted food color.) Popcorn Balls Next come the popcorn balls. Roll them in cake decorettes while still sticky, insert colored pipe cleaners and hook the ends over the tips of the branches. Next, fix your fruit candy balls. Here's how: grind to gether one-half pound each of pitted prunes, seedless raisins soaked five minutes in warm water, seeded dates and figs or apricots. Add one cup of chopped nuts, one-half teaspoon of salt and one teaspoon of cin namon. Shape into small balls. Roll in a mixture of one-half cup sugar, and one teaspoon cinnamon. Wrap balls in square of colored cellophane and tie the ends with red or green ribbons and loop to tips of branches. Make Patterns Now for the cookies and here you can let your fancy roam. Use cookie cutters or make your own cardboard patterns by tracing whimsical animals Contrary to popular belief, teen-age boys are not a special breed, they have individual pref erences, just like grownups. Most teens are sports con scious though, and would be de lighted with a pair of tickets to a favorite sports event. Your favorite cookies, cut in holiday shapes, are sure to bring appreciative m u r m e r s from friends and family as they toast each other's health and happiness with Christmas egg nog. from children's book's or rnaga- tines. Place cardboard patterns on the dough and cut around them with a sharp knife. Before the cookies are pop ped into the over, make a hole in each one large enough for the string which will be used to hang It on tne tree, wnen cookies are done, let your artis tic talents take over. Decorate tnem witn coiuecuoners sugar frosting and cake decorettes' and make them as gay and color ful as your Christmas mood. f grill OFFERINGS From Burelson's Shoe Salon Big Savings! 252 Pairs FLATS 5ru.,5$688to$888 flow's The Time To Buy BOOTS! s990.si ?90 1490 ANKIE BOOTS HIGH BOOTS FUR-TRIMMED PLAIN PUUONS OPEN FRIDAYS UNTIL 9 P.M.
