(UPI) Mink Cherished As Gift, Survey Figures Show There are probably fewer gifts in the world more cher ished by women than mink, a fact borne out by surveys. Whether it be a coat, stole, jacket or wrap, furriers this coming Yuletide season have made gifts of a mink even more tempting, and, according to the Emba Mink Breeders As sociation, the organization of American ranchers who produce the high quality mink in 12 natural colors, one lucky woman in 1,666 will own a mink fash ion this year. There is a wide variety of styles from which to choose gifts, and the 12 Emba shades Eive every woman the added gift of choice of color, to suit her complexion, hair color or personal taste. Casual Styles High on the list of fur fash ions this year are those with casual styling. For example, a trench coat of Morning Light, Emba natural blue-beige mink, is considered "in," whether over a skirt and sweater or over a long creoe dinner gown. Jasmine, Emba pure white mink, long considered to be an evening fur has gone casual. One designer has styled the ele gant fur into a notch-collared, double-breasted coat with patch pockets and labeled it a day time fashion. Yet another designer has fash ioned the luscious white fur into a triangular shape, and as an added fillip, and has been edged with white ostrich feathers. But whatever the gift a Emba ' mink may be, from a circling boa to a floor-length muninn nn,tt tha Hinmntl whn receives it will cherish it like few gifts in the world. Select Toys With Great Care Council Advises Parents, Doting Relatives B 7 Who will use the tovs? This question needs careful thought, if Santa's assistants are going to rate good marks for efficien cy. Most of the errors in toy buying result from inattention to this basic point. This advice comes from Dr. Mary Moffit of the Toy Guidance Council Educator Advisory Com mittee who notes that most in appropriate toy selections are made by harried shoppers who leave the procurement of gifts for the children on their lists to the last minute. Playthings are vital tools of childhood the tools which help youngsters to learn by doing, Dr. Moffit noted. The value of well chosen toys as basic aids to child development is so tre mendous, that the selection of playthings should merit priority on the busiest shopper's list of activities. The color and movement of many toys is enchanting to adults, Dr. Moffit notes. This is NAMED VICE PRESIDENT CORVALLIS (UPI)-Dr. Dil lard Gates, Oregon State Uni versity extension range man agement specialist, has been named vice president of the Pa cific Northwest Section, Ameri can Society of Range Management. natural and grownups would be happier if they relaxed more by playing with toys. But this yearning for amusement should not be allowed to conflict with the very real need of children to have toys which are suited to their state of development. No assistant Santa should be reticent about asking for infor mation about the children on the gift list, Dr. Moffit states. Par ents and even teachers can pro vide very helpful clues to the kind of toys which will fit special interests of individual children. Safety Important Safety is a most important rule of toy selection, Dr. Moffit notes, and here, the key is the choice of toy gifts that especially fit the age. The hobhy kit that will be fine for a school age youngster wiii be dangerous in Dec. 1 Last Day for Entering Kindergarten December 1 will be the last date for enrolling children, who have not been attending kinder garten elsewhere, at the Rogue River Cooperative Kindergar ten, it has been announced.. The kindergarten was closed for Thanksgiving week to enable fathers to make neces sary repairs in preparation for winter. the hands of a kindergartner. Most care, of, course, should be exercised in the choice of toys for the baby. Since every thing is likely to go mouthward, it is important to pick playthings which are safe to suck and which have no loose parts which might be swallowed. It is im portant, too, to remember that toys for baby should be light weight to avoid strain on devel oping muscles. Read Instructions Babies are endeavoring to de velop thir sense of touch, so toys of different textures will be help ful. Musical toys help the cherub to develop his sense of hearing. Doting relatives will be wise to give careful attention to labels and instructions on the boxes when picking toys for babies and toddlers as a double check on safety factors. It is considerate to give thought to where a child lives too. If he has the run of a back yard play space, a garage or a basement playroom, then large scale toy and games will be ap propriate gifts. If he lives in a small apartment, space prob lems will have to be weighed to determine a toy's utility. When a large family must be remembered, it may be help ful to give playthings which can be used by different age groups together. Latest Hearing Aids!
