Beaten by Women :
DETROIT (UPI) - An Ohio
man told police Monday he was
hailed by two women in a car
as he was walking down a
street, taken to an alley, heat
ed and robbed of $17.
Leonard Short, 26, Celinai
Ohio, told officers he was ac
costed after getting in the car
with the women. .-
He said he escaped once from
their car and ran down the
street but the women chased
him, caught him and beat him
some more.
They let him go, he said, aft
er taking his wallet.

Gaslight Provides Welcoming Beacon
One of the most reassuring
sights on a stormy night Is the
golden glow of a gaslight mark-
ing a driveway entrance or
standing as a welcoming beacon
at the front door. ' .
Only gaslights say "welcome"
in such a gracious way. Even
when other sources of illumina
tion fail, gaslights continue to
operate.
One reason is that gas flows
through copper tubing buried
underground, unaffected by rain,
snow or heavy winds. This ex
plains why airports, restaurants,
shopping ccntors and other com
mercial establishments have
been turning in Increasing num
bers to this source of outdoor
illumination.

New Air Conditioning Methods
Using Gas Now Are Available
New methods of year-round
home air conditioning using gas
for both heating and cooling are
now on the market. They in
clude numerous advancements
in design and performance to
provide compactness, ease of

ing costs. .
Forced ' warm air systems
using -gas furnaces are partic
ularly adaptable to addition of
central cooling, and manufac
turers have conducted extensive
dealer training programs in
this field. Water chilling units
are made for use with hot water
heat systems. t
Gas is figurine in an increas
ingly wide variety of all-year
air conditioning equipment. An
all-gas absorption-type . u n 1 1
both heats and cools and, in
its latest models, combines in
creased cooling capacity with
smaller size.
Gas furnaces also are being
teamed with power cooling sys
tems, and among the newest
developments is use of a gas
engine in a soundproof cabinet
outside the house to activate the
cooling system.

can be handled even while the
heating system is in full use.

Packaged combination heating-cooling:
This is a compact
arrangement of all heatine and
cooling features in one housing.

controls. It is usually called a
year-round system because it
provides cooling in summer and
heating in winter. The change
over from heating to cooling is
completely automatic. ;

the basement or utility room or

up with the duct-work or piping
system.
Matched packages of heating
and cooling: Here the heating
and cooling sections are divided
into separate units, designed so
that one can be added to the
other. Usually the heating sec
tion is the basic unit and in
cludes the fan or water pump
and the main automatic control
system, as well as the furnace,
or boiler.
The cooling section contains
the condensing section and
evaporator. When added to the
heating section, the combined
unit functions much like the
packaged heating-cooling unit
described above.
Heating with add-on package
cooling; Many homes have ex
cellent heating systems that
were installed without special
provision for adding cooling
later. To meet this need, cool
ing systems have been designed
for addition to existing heating
plants.
Most add-on cooling units take
advantage of the fan or water
pump and the basic controls
already on the heating unit and
use it for the cooling operation
as well. Usually, however, the
fan output must be increased.
With cooling added, the com
bined system functions in much
the same manner as the two
systems mentioned.
Heating-cooling systems with
remotely located condensing
section: In this arrangement,
the major mechanical part of
the refrigeration unit is located
away - from tne nesting plant.
The condensing section can be
mounted out-of-doors, in the ga-
race. or anv similar location
It is connected to the evapo
rator hy tubing through which
the refrigerant flows.
The evaporator (cold section)
is mounted in the ductwork
whrre it can chill the air. The
system provides heating and j

Sen. Edward Fadclcy, D-Eu-gene,
pointed out the legisla

year longer than any other in
the state's history.
