Roseburg High in one of four
weekend Class A-l quarterfi
nals. Whistle for the kickoff will
blast at B p. m. This will be the
Hurricane's first varsity grid
venture on the Roseburg field
Since 1955.
Tonight's encacemcnt in the
Umpqua Valley city has been
billed as the top quarterfinal in
the state. Winner of the con
flict will be favored to go on and
claim the 1963 crown.

were the Indians when they
warpathed here last fall.
Tonight's victor will march
into semifinals against either
Grant or West Linn. Those two
teams are combatants Saturday
afternoon. In other A-l quarter
finals Beaverton is at Parkrose
tonight and North Salem at
Pendleton tomorrow afternoon.
Metropolitan area forecasts
give the nods to Roseburg, Bea
verton and Grant and are split
between North Salem and Pend
leton for these first round
elimination games.

ford despite the Whirlwind'!

three final polls. The Indians
did lead the tabulations several
weeks and will fight tonight
on home ground.

Medford and Roseburg once
had an annual football rivalry
going. It was abandoned after
1115b by Ihe Indians and the
schools did not meet again on

Basketball drills got under
way this week for St. Mary's
High School with 13 boys prac
ticing on a full time basis.
Four others are expected to be
on hand full time starting next
Monday and a fifth should re
port shortly.
Lettcrmen include Randy Cor
liss, John Batzer, Ron Roberts,
Jeff Randolph, Don Zeleznik and
Ray Richter.
Coach Dick Paup indicated
that Corliss, Batzer and Rob
erts have been out but not com
pletely involved in practices yet.
Roberts has been favoring a
shoulder hurt in football.
Hobbled
Jeff Randolph has been hob
bled by a knee injury in foot
ball but may be op hand in an
