OREGON Year's Teaching Available at UO Under Intern Plan THURSDAY, NOVEMBER II, VMJ emmf EUGENE A year's teaching experience will be made avail able to qualified students under tne university ot Oregon s teach er internship program. ' In its second year, the pro gram provides selected and ma ture students the opportunity of g a i n ing "on-the-job-with-pay' experience leading to certifica tion at either the elementary or secondary - level and to a master's degree. The program, jointly develop ed by tne University and the Oregon State Department of Education, is aimed at improv ing elementary and secondary scnooi instruction and teacher training throughout the state, Dr. John Suttle, assistant pro fessor of education at the UO, is director of the Oregon Pro gram for the University. Selected From Students Teacher interns will be se lected from two types of per sons the student who has graduated with a liberal arts degree and wishes to teach, but has little or no course work m education; and the under graduate who is willing to un dertake a five-year program of preparation which includes a full year of on-the-job training. The program will include pre intcrn observation and partici pation in a classroom setting, summer workshop activities, a full year of teaching with guid ance from both the school sys tem and the university, and a post-intern summer session. There are 26 student interns now taking advantage of the program. A substantial increase in this number is expected next year. Any person interested in a teaching career who has, or will have, a baccalaureate de gree within the year, is eligible.
