THURSDAY, DEMNIS THE GeewwzJ ONE KM Soil Judging Scheduled at CORVALLIS - Adults, 4-H club members and Future Farmers of America will test their knowledge of soils Nov. 13 during the annual Oregon state soil judging contest near Grants Pass. The contest will highlight the opening day of the three - day Oregon Association of Soil Con ' servation Districts annual meeting-Knowledge of the soil is im portant in proper soil manage ment and cropping practices, according to Arthur S. King, Oregon State University exten sion soils specialist and contest coordinator. The contest is one way of teaching both adults and young people about the soil. This year's contest will be headquartered at Jerome Prai rie Community Hall, five miles west of Grants Pass on U. S. 199, King said. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. The actual judging contest will start at 1:15 p.m. Each conservation district Is eligible to enter a judging team, as are 4-H clubs and FFA chapters, King explained.
