WORK SMARTER
By BERNICE STRAWN
Oregon Stale University
Do you think a time plan is
impossible because you have too
many emergencies every day?
You're assuming that it must
be rigid, unbending, and re
quires strict adherence to be
any good.
A workable plan is adjustable
to suit circumstaices. It should
allow time (or unplanned activi
ties.
A eood plan cuts time loss due
to procrastination, and procras
tination saps emotional energy
by adding dread and dislike to

Mnnpv saver! You can trim
at least 10 per cent, maybe
more, off your grocery bill by
taking advantage of specials at
the supermarket. Mrs. Velma
Seat, OSU extension looa mar
tntina srwialist. citps research
to back up this claim. But to
make a savings, these items on
special must account for a fourth
of your purchases, so it taxes
a bit of planning.
Mrs. Seat emphasizes that you
have to be able to use these
items once you buy them, or
they re no Bargain.
Watch out for walnut stains.
Nuts and leaves are falling and
it's easy to track wet leaves
onto your carpet. If this hap
pens, get a professional rug
cleaner; you'll not be able to
remove the stain yourself.
For stains on washable fabrics
which can stand high heat, boil
in sudsy water. If stain remains,
soak about 5 minutes in diluted
chlorine bleach. Wash and rinse
all chlorine from the fabric.
Frozen freshly baked rolls lose
only half as much freshness as
rolls stored in a bread box for
24 hours, says Virginia Weiser,
OSU nutritionist.
U. S. Department of Agricul
ture research to help commer
cial bakers can also be applied
at home. Freshly baked rolls
were wrapped in freezer paper
soon after baking. Researchers
found that defrosting without
unwrapping in a warm place
also helps maintain freshness.

Flea Market
The Armory is echoing the
sounds of hammers and saws
this week, as Junior Service
league members and their hus
bands construct booths and
backgrounds for the Internation
al Flea Market, which opens
Friday noon.
The calamities that accom
pany every enterprise of this
magnitude are causing moans
of anguish among league mem
bers. A shortage of the proper
materials for booth construction,
stolen decorations, and rum
mage that is not rummage, are
recent problems.
Sunday evening a dismayed
daughter searched through
countless racks and boxes of

rummage for her mother's sum
mer clothing, which had been
mistakenly collected by a league
pick-up crew. The woman was
one of many generous local
donors who offered rummage
for the sale. She had left the
carton of out-of-season clothing
near her donation of discarded
articles, both had been eagerly
carted off for marking. League
members report, happily, that
she retrieved the missing cloth
ing, with the aid of a flashlight
and perseverance.
Decorations Stolen
A worse plight is that of
Mrs. Geogry Hornecker, chair
man of the Christmas booth,
who is rephrasing a familiar

plea. She has changed the usual
"Keep the money and the wal
let, but please return my pa
pers" to "Keep the groceries,
but please return my Christmas
decorations." Mrs. Hornecker
left her parked car unlocked
last week while she shopped, and
her hand-made Christmas bells
were stolen with her groceries.
The hours she labored to make
the decorative bells mean more
to her than the groceries, which
were easily replaced.
The flea market will open on
schedule, in spite of minor mis
haps, with a taped "kick-off"
message from Representative
Robert Duncan.
