Jones Jr. This church-wide study will begin at 5 p.m. in the Meeker Memorial chapel under the leadership of Mrs. Millnn Snnw. Gilbert Skaar, pastor of First Southern Bap tist church, will have for his message Sunday morning "Why God Sent His Son." Sunday at 7:30 p.m. he will speak on "The Eleventh Commandment." Rnhert Klusman will be in charge of the song service at both meetings. Fridav evening the Siskiyou Baptist association will meet at the Phoenix church for month ly conference. Emphasis will De on Woman's Missionary and Men's Brotherhood work. The Rev. Elbert Galloway will lead the conference on the men's work and Mrs. Hazel Briggs, associational president, will lead the women. Conferences will begin at 7:30 p.m. following a dinner served by tho host church. Mr. Skaar has been elected associational moderator for the coming church year and will preside. Area missionary, the Rev. Austin Lovin will report. Song service will be directed by Charles Findlcy and the host pastor, the Rev. Noel Mills, will conduct the opening devotional. First Christian Lists Activities "Our Today's for Their To morrow's" is the title of the sermon which the Rev. Fredrick Ross Evans will preach Sunday morning at the First Christian church. The youth ensemble will sing Handel s "1 amer, u near me at both the 9:30 and 11 a.m. services. Mrs. B. T. Rice and Mrs. Annie Brown will be hostesses at the coffee hour. The current $75,000 building fund program is in its second week. Sunday at 2 p.m. there will be a meeting at the church of - campaign council. Wayne Wakefield is the campaign chairman and Mrs. Emil John son, secretary. All the youth fellowship groups will meet at the Wilson school at 5:30 p.m. for recrea tion. Following this they will have their studies at the church. The Chi Rho's will study "Real izing Commitments in Chris tianity" lead by Patty Evans, Gayle House will give the devo tions. The Christian Youth Fcl lowship will have a depart mental planning retreat. Our Church Faces the Racial Issue" will be considered on the following Sunday with the Rev. Robert W. Church commission chairmen will close the school with a time of considering sug gestions for action by local church members in meeting the challenees presented to them, Each evening a snack supper will be served at 6:15 p.m., lot lowed by closing worship. Sunday Events The Senior High Methodist Youth Fellowship will meet at the church at 4 p.m. for a kid nap and hayride party. The Jun ior High MYF will have a fire side at the home of Wayne Tay lor. Transportation will be pro vided from the church at 6:30 p.m. Larry Duyson and Wayne Taylor have the devotions. At their monthly dinner meet ing on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. the Methodist Men will hear an address on agricultural mis sions in India by R. A. Robin son, Grants Pass, and selections by the local chapter of the So ciety for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartette Singing in America. Mr. Robinson, with his wife, Marylin, spent three years at Allabahad Agriculture institute, located at the juncture of the Ganges and Jumna rivers. Both Mr. and Mrs. Robinson are graduates of Oregon State uni versity. Friday at 6:30 p.m. the Acolytes and their families will have a potluck dinner in Wes ley hall. The dates are Oct. 15 through 17, The Senior High mm 1 CHURCH NEWS National Religious Publicity Council MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE, MEDFORD, OREGON Sermons Announced for Local Presbyterians; Explorer Slated Oct. 16 Sacred Heart Church Adds Mass to Sunday Schedule; Classes Are Under Way A new schedule of Sunday masses was put into elieci in Sacred Heart Catholic church this month and will continue indefinitely, according to the Very Rev. Carl Mai, parish pastor. Increasingly crowded condi tions at Sunday masses have made the addition of a seventh mass necessary and consequent ly Ihe re-scheduling of several of the other masses, Father Mai explained. Sunday masses are now cele brated at 6, 7, 8:15, 9:30 and 10:45 a.m. and at noon. The 7 p.m. mass will be continued. Masses are also said every week day at 6:30 and 8 a.m. Confessions will continue to be heard at the usual hours of 4 to 5:30 and 7:30 to 9 p.m. every Saturday and on the eves of First Fridays and holy days of obligation. Devotions Noted Saturday of this week, and the second Saturday of every month, there will be Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament devotions for all parishioners from 1 unlil 9 p.m. Men of the Nocturnal Adoration society will maintain their hour ly vigil before the exposed sac rament from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. Sunday. Perpetual Help devotions, fol lowed bv benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, are held at 7:30 p.m. every Wednesday. The current scries of inquiry classes for adult non-Catholics is also meeting on Wednesday of every week at 8 p.m. at at. Mary s tirade school, inn ano Ivy sts. Anyone interested in learning about the Roman Catholic religion, is invited to attend these sessions. An adult education class is currently studying the Old Testament under the guidance of the Rev. Gilbert Lulay. The next meeting will be held on Monday, Oct. 14, but the regular Tuesday night schedule will be resumed the following week at 8 p.m. in St. Mary's High school on Black Oak dr. Also beginning this month is the fall session of Religious Discussion clubs. These meet ings are open to Catholics and their non-Catholic spouses who wish to review or increase their knowledge and understanding of their faun. Catechism Classes A complete schedule of cate chism classes for Catholic stud ents . in the Medford area who attend public schools is being conducted again this year by the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine. Children in grades one through eight attend ses sions every Saturday at St. Mary's Grade school from 10 to 11:15 a.m. Students in grades nine through twelve are expect ed to continue their religious instruction each Sunday in the classes being held for them from 5:45 until 6:50 p.m., also In the parochial grade school. Priests assisting Father Mai with his duties as pastor of Sac kJ Heart parish and its mis sions are the Rev. William Mc Leod, the Rev. John Ilg, Father Lulay and the Rev. John Keane, principal of St. Mary's High school and resident chaplain at Saned Heart hospital. Continuing his sermon series on the Gospel of John, Dr. D. Kirkland West will preach on, "Behold the Lamb of God" at the First Presbyterian church Sunday. The chancel choir will sing, "Come Thou Almighty King" for the 11 a.m. service and at the first service the Senior High choir will present, "Laud amus Te." Gary Raridan will sing a solo at both services. A class for new members will be taught by Dr. West at 5 p.m. Sunday in the Fireplace room. All wishing to unite with the church are invited to attend. Junior High Fellowship meets each Tuesday at 4 p.m. tor rec reation, choir practice, worship and Bible study. Senior High Fellowship will meet Wednesday at 5 p.m. for choir practice followed by din ner and worship. They will then attend the lecture and movie to be presented by Dr. Wendell Phillips. Dr. Phillips, internationally known explorer and author, will present a program at 8 p.m. at the church. It is open to the public. Dr. Phillips, author of the book, "Qutaban and Sheba," will tell of his archeological ex plorations in several of the Biblical kingdoms of Arabia. He is founder and president of the American Foundation of the Study of Man and is economic advisor to the aultan of Oman, a southeast Arabian nation, and director general of antiquities of that nation He will show the film "Expe dition, Queen of .Sheba." The Speaker has established an in ternational reputation for or ganization of and participation in archeological expeditions, particularly in A f r i c a and Arabia. The First Baptist church is engaged in a six-week Sunday School contest with the Betnel Baptist church, Phoenix, Ariz. Medford won the first Sunday of the contest last week, and is seeking to reach a figure of 600 in attendance.
