14 B Higher Education Lists 23 Getting Above$2l,500 PORTLAND (UPI) - Twenty three out of more than 3,000 em ployees in the slate system of higher education receive a sal ary larger than the governor, according to Chancellor Roy Lieuallen. He was replying to Sen. Ward Cook (D-Portland) who said there were some 400 persons in education who were in the gov ernor's salary range. The gov ernor gets $21,500 a year. Cook said he did not mean to single out higher education. "I meant there are about 400 in all public education within the state who are in the governor's price range," he said. Names Listed Dr. Lieuallen said those get ting more than the $21,500 the governor receives include him self, $26,500; Presidents Arthur Flemming of the University of Oregon and James Jensen of Oregon State, $25,500; President Branford Millar of Portland State, $23,250; Dean D. W. E. Baird of the Medical School, $23,300, and Dean H. J. Noyes of the Dental School. $23,050. Lewis-Clark Trail Subject of Meeting PORTLAND (UPI) - A 10 slalp project to commemorate Ihe Lewis and Clark expedition from St. Louis Mo., to the Pacific Ocean will be Ihe sub ject of a meeting here Thursday and Friday. The meeting is sponsored by the Bureau of Outdoor Recrea tion in the Department of Inter ior and the J. N. "Ding" Darling Foundation of Des Moines, Iowa. Delegates will study the potential for recreation, wild life and historic developments j along the expedition route. The Idea for the route was conceived I by Ihe late J. N. "Ding" Dar-! ling, cartoonist for the Des Moines, Iowa, Register. A foun dation set up after his death is advancing (he idea. States participating are Ore gon. Washington, Montana, Ida ho, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas and Missouri. A spokesman said Ihe meet ing here would result in a (inal study outline reflecting ideas for proceeding with a detailed study of the trail.
