FRIDAY, Congregational Activities Noted For Sunday, Week The members and friends of the Congregational church will meet for worship at 11 a.m. sun day at Hoover Grade school. The school is the temporary meeting place of the church while plans are being made for the construction of a new sanc tuary unit at the corner of East Jackson st. and Berkeley way. The Rev. Robert W. Tull, minister of the church, will Breach a sermon entitled, "Where Are the Nine?" The church choir will sing its first service of the fall under the direction of Charles F. Martin. Mrs. Raymond Powers will be at the organ. During the worship hour, church school classes will be held for all children through sixth grade. The classes will meet in their regular assigned places in Hoover school. Sunday evening the senior high youth of the church will have their first meeting of the fall. All ninth through twelfth grade young people are invited to the home or Mr. ana Mrs. Gatewood G. Smith, 705 West loth st., for a pizza supper and discussion of the coming year. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. and close promptly at 9 p.m. Also on Sunday evening, a group of adult leaders of the church's vouth ministry will meet at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tull, 401 Ardmore ave., at 7:30 p.m. The choir will meet for re hearsal on Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Duane Richardson, 749 West 14th st. Thursday at 8 p.m., a con gregational business meeting of the church will be held in the sanctuary of St. Luke's Metho dist church, Siskiyou Blvd. The purpose of the meeting is to hear the report of the building committee relative to the open ing of bids for construction of the church's new sanctuary and educational unit, ard to take appropriate congregaiional ac tion toward the building of new facilities at the earliest possible date. Har old M. Sanner, pastor of the First Church of the Nazarene, Sunday morning. For five weeks now the church, which is located at 520 North Holly St., has been in a stewardship program. The gen eral theme has been "Tithing Puts God First." Various lay men have spoken in each of the major services on "Why I Tithe." The final four-minute testimony of the series will be given by John Dean in the 11 a.m. service Sunday. The church is seeking to un derwrite its budget goal of $64,- 000 for its world, district, and local mission obligations. Lisle Young is general chairman of the program. Music Announced Music under the direction of Perry Christiansen, minister of music and education for the church, will include the sanctu ary choir singing "Conflict of the Ages, and a duet by Mrs. Hex Vowell and Dean von Stein for the morning service. Music in the 7 p.m. service will include a trio by Mrs. Bill Brewster, Vel- ma Myers, and Mrs. Vowell. The pastor's message will be "Our Salvation." Series Continues At 1st Southern Baptist Sunday The Rev. G. O. Skaar, min ister of First Southern Baptist church, will give the sixth m a series of sermons on the Ten Commandments Sunday morn ing at the worship hour. His subject will be "Respect For Life." In the evening he will speak on "Respect for Purity." Dennis Sampels will direct the congre gational singing. Training Union classes will convene at the new time of 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening studies on what Baptists believe about God will continue at the prayer meeting hour of 8 p.m. The woman's missionary so ciety will begin the annual week oi prayer for home missions Monday, Sept. 16. Meetings will be held at the church Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 10 a.m. and Wednesday at 8 to 9 p.m. Theme for the pro grams will be Going, Bear ing, Rejoicing." A different topic will be introduced each day including the Canadian work, Mt. Baker Assembly, the Rehabilitation center, Seattle, and others. Zion Returns to Regular Schedule Zion Lutheran Church, Fourth st. and Oakdale ave., will re turn to their regular schedule of worship Sunday. The Sunday school will meet at 9:45 a.m. and the worship will be at 11 a.m. The Rev. H. C. Coovcrt's sermon topic for the Fourteenth Sunday alter Trinity will be entitled "Concentrate On These Gifts." The senior choir will sing the anthem "Give Thanks Unto The Lord." Following the morning wor ship a reception will be held in the social hall to honor Mr. and Mrs. Coovert on the occasion of their 25th wedding anniversary. The Senior Luther league will meet at the church at 5 p.m. Sunday and will go from there to Lithia Park for a picnic. All young people of the congregation in senior high school are in vited. Monday at 7:30 p.m. there will be a meeting of the church coun cil and members of the stew ardship committee in the Fire side room. Brethren Church Events Announced The Rev. William Wash has chosen as his Sunday topic at the 11 a. m. worship hour at the Church of the Brethren, 345 North Mary st. "It Is Love That Exercises and Develops." A trio composed of Terry Air man, Pat Stockman and Mary Music will sing. Immediately following the services, the Deacons will hold a politick dinner and their quar terly business meeting in the Fellowship hall. At 7 p.m. the Church of Brethren Youth Fellowship will meet at the church, with Gary Branson the discussion leader. Skating Party Monday night the young peo pie's societies of the Churches of the Nazarene in this area are sponsoring a skating party at Ashland Skatcway. This will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. A bus will leave Medford First Church at 6:30 p.m. The fall schedule of week-day activities for boys and girls will resume next week. The Cherub choir, for first, second, and third grade children, will practice on Thursdays at 4 p.m. The Caro- liers, for fourth, fifth, and sixth graders, will meet at 6:45 p.m Thursday for their rehearsal. Boys and girls clubs, the Cara vans, will include second and third graders this year as well as the junior age children. These clubs will organize and begin meetings this Wednesday from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. Mrs. Don Shearin, senior guide of the Caravan groups, has an nounced that any boy or girl in this age group who is a member of the Sunday school, is eligible to be a Caravan member. 'Lost Opportunity' Is Sermon Topic Lost Opportunity" will be the subject of the Rev. R. A. Hadeen at the worship service at 11 a. m. at Berean Baptist church of White City. The Scrip ture portion is Jeremiah 8:20. Music will be provided by Mrs. R. A. Hadeen and will be accompanied by Miss Emily Ha deen. Mrs. Lucille Cuddy will be pianist and Mrs. Hadeen will be organist. A supervised nur sery for babies and toddlers is provided at this service under the leadership of Mrs. Carol Webb. A completely departmental zed Sunday school begins at 9:45 a. m. under the leadership of Kenneth Fisher. A new fea ture of the Sunday school is a supervised nursery under the leadership of Mrs. Betty Keen. Sunday at 7:30 p. m. All are invited to the services. Revival Meeting Set at Mt. Pitt The Rev. Roliort A. Allen, pas tor of the First Church of the Nazarene, Grants Pass, will hold a revival meeting at the Ml. Pitt avenue Church of the Naz arene, from Sept. 15 through 22. Services will be held each eve ning, except Saturday, at 7:30 p.m. and at the regular times for the Sunday services. Mr. Allen has served as evangelist throughout (he midwest, and has pastored churches in Kan sas, Arkansas and Oregon. Katharine Bosworth, of the Unity church, Holly and Haven sts., will attend the Northwest Ministers' confer ence in Yakima, Wash., Sept. 16, 17 and 18. The theme of the conference will be "The Fullness of Faith." Mrs. Bosworth is to take part in the prayer and discussion panels. The Rev. R. E. Cull, pastor, stated today. Conducting the evangelistic services twice on Sunday and each evening Tuesday through Friday are the Rev. and Mrs. Raymond H. Wiley of r argo, N. D. Known as the Gospel Singers throughout the upper midwest, Mr. and Mrs. Wiley have been active in radio broad casting since 1946 and have participated in several capaci ties with Youth for Christ in the same area of the nation. Medford Presbyterians Announce Sunday Events Continuing his series of ser mons on Romans, Dr. D. Kirk land West will preach on, "Which Will You Choose, Death or Life?" at the First Presby terian church Sunday. Miss Linda Johnson will be the soloist and at the first serv ice the Senior High choir will sing, "Treasures in Heaven" with the chancel choir singing the anthem, "Rise Up, O Men of God" for the 11 a.m. service. Mrs. Norman Thames will be at the organ. Sunday at 7 p.m. Senior High Fellowship meets at the church for a review of summer experi ences in church work, followed by fireside at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Roemer, 1979 Griffin Creek road. Following this short intro duction to the curriculum, those attending may go to the regular departmental curriculum pre views in the department where his child attends. A social hour will follow so that there will be an opportunity for teachers to become acquainted with parents of students. Westminster Sunday at the Westminster Presbyterian church the incom ing fourth grade students will re ceive gift Bibles from the church and their parents during the 11 a.m. worship service. The Bibles will be presented by H. D. Chris- tensen of the Christian education committee and the Rev. John O. Reynolds. Children's church for boys and girls from 5 to 10 years of age will begin again. The children sit in the front of the sanctuary until after a children's sermon and the second hymn at which time they exit to attend a pro gram of activities and study for the rest of the hour. The church choir will sing, under the direc tion of Mrs. Harvey Field, and Mr. Reynolds will preach on "The Master and Lord of Life." Nursery care for pre-school age children is available during the U a.m. hour. Church school classes meet at 9:45 a.m. for children, youth and adults. Two Churches Note Speakers, Music, Meetings CENTRAL POINT Dr. Alvin Roberts will speak Sunday at the Central Point Presbyterian church, telling of his work dur ing the past year in Iran at the Hamadan Christian hospital. The service, beginning at 11 a.m. will include the anthem, "Let the People Praise Thee," by Perry, and a solo number by Mrs. Arthur Schafroth, choir director. Mrs. Darrel Greb is the organist. Preschool children are cared for during this hour. A coffee hour follows. At the youth meeting at 7 p.m. Miss Judith Roberts and Lawrence Roberts, daughter and son of Dr. and Mrs. Roberts, will tell of their experiences and show pictures taken during their stay in Iran. Public Talk Set In Grants Pass GRANTS PASS "Who Are You?" is the question that will be explored on Monday, Sept. 16 in a public talk by Mrs. Lenore D. Hanks, a member of The Christian Science board of lectureship. Sponsor of the talk is First Church of Christ, Scien tist, Grants Pass. The lecturer will speak at 8 p. m. in the church auditorium, 604 N. W. Sixth St. The theme will be man's discovery of his spiritual identity under God. The lecture is entitled. "Do You Know Who You Really Are." Mrs. Hanks is a native of Portland and was graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in sociology. STEPHENS In Jacksonville Evangelist to Hold Services JACKSONVILLE - Jackson ville Assembly of God will hold services with Evangelist Wil liam L. Stephens nightly at 7:30 p.m. beginning Tuesday, Sept. 17, through 20 and on Sunday, Sept. 22, at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Music and gospel singing will be featured in each service. Mr. Stephens was formerly the state director of Youth and Christian education for the As semblies of God of the Oregon district. He has pastored a num ber of churches in Oregon and has been the featured speaker at YFC rallies, camp meetings, youth camps and conventions. The youth choir will sing "Beautiful Saviour" at 9:30 a. m. and the chancel choir will sing "Send Out Thy Spirit" at 11 a. m. The Becomer's class will travel to Crater Lake Sunday for their class meeting at 11 a. m. The Rev. Gerald Nelson, associate pastor, will accom pany them. The Junior High Methodist Youth Fellowship will spend Saturday and Sunday at Indian Springs camp for their fall re treat and election of officers. They will not have their Sun day evening meeting. The Senior High MYF will spend the week end in Eugene at the Fall District Assembly for the Eugene and Salem Dis trict MYF groups. However, they will be back in time to have their regular fellowship meeting at 6:30 p. m. Sunday with Joe Banks in charge of the program. Simon of St. Peter's Lutheran church will continue his sermon series on the work of the Holy Spirit in both Sunday services at 5 and 11 a. m. The church is 0 cated at 1020 East Main st. Holy communion will also be celebrated in the early service. The public is invited to see a new full-color movie, "A Let ter To Nancy," in the church auditorium on Sunday at 8 p.m. This 80-minute film, produced in Hollywood, was edited and directed by Dr. Herman Gockel, director of the "This Is The Life" television fiims. It has never before been shown in southern Oregon. The Lutheran Laymen's League of St. Peter's will meet Sunday at 6:45 p.m. and adjourn in time to be able to see "A Letter to Nancy" as a group, The Sunday school teachers, staff members, and others in terested in working in the church school, will meet with the pastor Monday at 7:30 p.m. Registration is still open for all educational efforts of t h a church.
