Moscow To Gel Fishing Protest
.1UNEAU, Alaskn (liH) -Alaskan
charRos n( hnrnssmrnl
hv Russian fishermen will be re
ferred In Moscow hy the Soviet
embassy in Washington, it was
announced Wednesday.
Deputy under secretary nf
slate Alexis Johnson advised
Gov. William A. ERnn that the
slain department, on the basis
nf preliminary Coast Guard re
ports which confirmed earlier
protests hy Kuan, had discussed
the matter wilh the Russian em
bassy. "Wc Immediately took up the
matter wilh the Soviet Embassy
which BRreed to urgently refer
the matter to Moscow," Johnson
said in a tclcRram to Epnn.
ERan, commentinR on the in
ternational status Rained by the
Alaskan fishermen's hassle wilh
Russian trawlers, said "this
(Johnson's telegram) indicates
to me the firmest action and in
terest our problem has ever re
ceived at such a top-notch lev
el. '
Last week end, Americans
fishinR off Kodink Island asked
for Coast G'.iard assistance be
cause of Russian harassment
They accused Soviet trawlers of
deliberately mining their Rear

West Coast Gets
Recommendation
WASHINGTON (UPI)-A Civil
Aeronautics Board examiner
recommended Wednesday that
West Coast airlines be permit
ted to operate non-slop from
Spokane to Seattle, and to Port
land, Ore.
Thomas L. R. Wrcnn, CAB as
sociate chief examiner, made
the recommendation to the full
board in an initial decision.
Wrcnn denied a request that
West Coast be allowed to sched
ule non-stop service from Spo
kane to Boise and Salt Lake
City. He also denied a request
for such service to Salem, Med
ford. Sacramento and San
Francisco-Oakland.
The examiner recommended
the extension of two United Air
lines routes from Boise to Spo
kane. Wrenn said necessary im
provement of service between
Spokane and Salt Lake Cily and
Denver could he provided by ex
tension of the routes rather
than by making Spokane an in
termediate stop between Se
attle and Portland.
Making Spokane a terminal
stop, Warren said, would per
mit non-stop service to Salt
Lake City and Denver and
would eliminate an intermedi
ale United Airlines stop at Pen
dleton, Ore.
