B Green Bay Takes With Giants by 24 Green Bay, Wis. (UPI) Jim my Taylor of the Green Bay Packers met Sam Huff and the New York Giants headon again Monday night. And again tle Packers took the measure of the Giants, as they have in the past two Na tional Football league title games this time by a 24-17 count. Taylor ground out 95 yirds rushing, scored two touchdowns, Padres Only One Game Behind Oklahoma City All of a sudden there a race in the Pacific Coast league's southern division. It took a while but the San Diego Padres are oerating un der a full head of steam today and as a result only one gsme separates them from first place in the southern division. The Padres, PCL champions last year, struggled through 13 innings Monday but hung on to gain a 2-1 victory over the OKla homa City 89ers, who only a week or so ago looked like sure division winners. The two clubs meet again today in what could be the most important game of the season for both. Queen Draws Praise At OSU Corvallis (UPI) Junior quarterback Gordon Queen drew praise from onlookers for his passing in Oregon State's football practice session Monday Queen is the top candidate to replace All-America signal-caller Terry Baker. Dr. E. C. Sailer said he could find nothing seriously wrong with Mays and ordered him lo go home and rest. He gave Mays a sedative and it was reported the 32-year-old outfielder slept after arriving at his home. Last year on Sept. 12 Mays collapsed in Cincinnati and was hospitalized three days. That classy combination very much in evidence on the Labor Day holiday as the Dodgers swept a twin bill from Houston, 7-3 and 7-1, and bag ed 20 hits plus Koufax' 21st vic tory could mean that it's all over but the shouting in the Na- lonal league pennant race. Even though the second-place M. Louis Cardinals kept pace with a doubleheader sweep of their own, 6-1 and 6-2 over Pit tsburgh, the Dodgers retained a six-game lead with only 25 to go- And Los Angeles certainly showed no signs of folding as Koufax fanned 13 batters in the opening game to close in on his own National league record of 2B9 for a season. He now stands al 259 and, the way he's going, could break the record the next time out. His 21 wins are tops in the majors. Podres Wins Twelfth Another southpaw, veteran Johnny Podres, picked up the nightcap win, his 12th. While the Dodgers and Cards rolled on, the staggering Giants dropped two games to Chicago, 7-5 and 6-0, and practically dis appeared from the pennant race, 9 '-i games behind. Cub Dick Ellsworth won his 20th. The Phillies beat the Braves 9-4, while the Mets beat the Reds 5-3, and then lost to Jim Ma loney's 20th victory 1-0. Pitched Complete Games Bob Gibson and Ron Taylor picthed complete games for the Cards as they kept at least a little pressure on the Dodgers. Gibson also hit his second hom er of the year. Ken Boyer's 21st homer helped Taylor win. The Giants lost Willie Mays in the fourth inning of their opener when he suffered a dizzy spell due to exhaustion while at bat.
