WORK SMARTER - NOT HARDER By BERNICE Oregon State Don't be heartbroken over a broken dish. Dishes can be mended with epoxy glue if you have all the pieces and they fit together. The mended dish can even be washed in a dishwasher because these new glues withstand heat, moisture and detergents. Epoxy glues are the mix-as-you-mend kind. They take time to "cure" so you'll need a way to hold the pieces intact until the glue gets a firm grip. For glue clues on kind which to use, read the directions on the container. Don't con fuse epoxy glue with the milky white plastic glues. These are fine for decorative items, but they're not water proof. Use your vacuum cleaner to speed up freezer defrost ing. But mind this word of caution. First take the cleaner to an open door or on the porch. Connect the hose to appearance BE SMART CALL ON US TODAYI 601 E. Main Park Free at the Deer H. D. Perspiration stains usually come out when laundered in warm suds. If the color of the fabric has changed, try to restore it by treating with either ammonia or white vine gar. Then rinse thoroughly. If a yellow slain remains on a wnite garment, use a bleach suitable for the fabric, This could be chlorine type except for silk or wool. For these, use the powdered Bieacn. If color from a coat lining has transferred to a white shirt, then you'll need to treat it with a dye remover which you can get at a drug, variety or grocery store. Youngsters are like popcorn when they get to a camp ground, says Jessalee Malla lieu, OSU Extension recrea tion specialist. They pop all over the place and often Bet ! lost. I MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE. MEDFORD, OREGON Social Events Fabrics Upstage Fashions By ALINE MOSBY United Press International paris-iUPH-Fabrics upstaged the fashions in the Paris style collections for autumn and winter. Photographs of the Paris couturiers' collections releas ed today show that the French styles offered few definite changes and are basking peacefully in a stable condi tion. In the absence of any start ling differences, designers sought out fabric manufac turers to make clothes appear different from last season. The fabric houses' creations had international buyers ex claiming that Paris cloth was the most beautiful in history, and also the most expensive. It will be a tweedy and woolly winter, with the House of Christian Dior featuring huge hound's tooth checks in unusual blurred pastels. Col ors in tweeds in the July shows were unusual such as lavender and black, olive green and cantaloupe orange. Irish Tweeds fiahriplle Chanel's Irish tweeds came in light creamy nnlnrc snrh as nale orance. vpllnw. enld and lavender. One hit was her "vamp" coat of gold nubby wool with an orangey-gold fox collar. Long evening coats ot wool replaced satins and silks in the Paris collections. The Italian husband - wife design ing team of Simonetta-Fabiani displayed one of black -ana white checked wool. Nina Ricci's star long even coat shimmered in tangerine wool mohair, worn over a flnnr . Ipnpth narrow black satin skirt and tailored white blouse. Artificial fabrics that look like snakeskin, oilskin and shiny leather also dominated the Paris collections. Many artificial lpathpr raincoats had an embossed design to give a quilted effect, otten tnese ele gant coats were lined with fur from curly Mongolian sheep to fluffy raccoon. Real and artificial snaKe skin and leopard popped up in vests, hells, hats, coats. suits and even dresses. The predominant fabric for cocktail and evening was "cloque silk," having a design slightly raised in bas relief. Designer Marc Bohan at Dior brought back Chantilly lace for evening gowns, as did rrUtnhitl Ralenriaea. He showed unlined lace evening coats over lace dresses. Stylet Not Revolutionary Although fabrics were start ling, styles were not revolu tionary. Most houses dutifully Luncheon Given In Mt. New Diet Food Resembles Candy New York - WW - A new diet food in candy bar form has a nutlike texture and flavor in a butterscotch-flavored coating. Each 200-calorie bar con tains 23 natural foods, includ ing milk. 3 kinds of oil, 10 fruits, millet, wheat germ, and sesame and sunflower seeds. Used as a did food, it should be eaten with a liquid such as milk, which provides additional protein, says the manufacturer. The liquid causes the millet, a grain ceregl. to increase in volume to satistr the feeling of hun ger. I followed King Balenciaga's lean, unfitted, loose look. Bui two houses evolved into a "newer" look that might be a prediction of what you will wear in years to come: Hu bert Givency brought back coats, suits and dresses fitted in the waist in the "princess line;" Bohan at Dior used wide, padded footballish shoulders and longer suit jackets. The new flour resembles salt in texture and pouring quality. Uniform particle size prevents dusting and packing down. The "instantized" flour is so uniform it slips through a sieve like sand through an hourglass, and can be used without changing recipes that call for all purpose flour, says the manufacturer.
