Atlanta - (lift - Cocky Mick ey Cohen, who sneered at gangsters' bombs and bullets, lay in a prison hospital today with a fractured skull, the victim of a touchy forger from South Carolina. A neurosurgeon said "in hours will tell the tale" of the effect the bloody beating will have on the West Coast mobster. Officials at Atlanta Federal Prison said Cohen, serving 15 years tor income tax evasion, was "progressing very satis factorily" and would live. The neurosurgeon had to op erate Wednesday to relieve the pressure on Cohen's brain shortly after a fellow in mats hit him on the head three times with a three-foot length of pipe. Restful Night Cohen "snent a restful light" under sedation, sources said. Warden D. M. Hertia Cohen was sittina in ka dio television workshop talk ing 10 a guerd when Berl Es tes McDonald trounced on him from behind with the inch- wide pipe. Moved From Alcatras Both Cohen, a flashy, 49-year-old former California gambling czar, and McDonald were transferred here last February when Alcatraz pris on was closed down. "It was a personal disagree ment between two men in prison," Hertiage said. Ha would not elaborate, he said. because it "might prejudice" trial of the assault with intent to murder charees filed against McDonald. It was not the first time Co hen shed blood in a "personal disagreement. Built-in furniture for the dormitory: Reliance Engineer ing and Manufacturing Corp., San Antonio, Tex., $153,959. There were three other bidders. Baton Twirling Event Scheduled Tonight Area residents are invited to attend a baton twirling and trampoline show at 7:30 o'clock tonight In Hawthorne park, Medford Park and Rec reation Director Robert L. Haworth said today. The show, which will be held in an area adjacent to the pool on the west lawn, is the culminating activity of the summer playground program, Haworth said.
