Mr. Cook waa graduat ed from Phoenix High school and attended Oregon Techni cal Institute. He is employed as a grader for Oregon Veneer company. A date for tha wedding has not been set. Junior Women At Work On Appointment Calendar Members of the Med ford Junior Women's club, of the Oregon Federation of Wom en's clubs, are busy planning their sixth annual social and appointment calendar, accord ing to Mrs. William E. Sweet, chairman. Proceeds from the sale of these calendars are used each year for local youth. Since 1998, the funds have support ed the school clothing pool and will continue to do so. In addition, this past year, calendar funds provided a $180 scholarship to a graduat ing senior girl from Medford High school and $100 to the E. H. Hedrlck Memorial fund. ON THE right ussr . . . Couple to Wed In September At Church Here A September wedding Is planned by Miss Ronda G. Martin and her fiance, Clar ence E. Sorensen. The rites are set for September 14 at First Methodist church, Med ford. Tha bride-elect Is a daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester L. Martin, (41 Stewart avenue, and Mr. Sorensen's parents are Mr, and Mrs. Christian J. Sorensen, Portland. Misa Martin was graduated from Medford High school and is employed by Gray's Furni ture Barn, Inc. Mr. Sorsensen attended Portland schools and is a graduate of the Universi ty of Oregon where he was affiliated with Phi Kappa Sig ma fraternity. He is the local representative of Burroughs corporation, Todd division. 4 Couple to Wed On August 24 An event of Saturday, Au gust 24, will be the wedding of Miss Claudia Kay Hoover to Robert Edwin Allen. The ceremony will be held at First Presbyterian church at four o'clock In the afternoon. Misa Hoover, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claud Hoover, Vilas road, arrived last week after completing Internship as an occupational therapist at tha San Fernando Veterans' hospital. She took the exam inations in June for registra tion with the American Medi cal association. Miss Hoover was graduated in January from San Jose State college in California. Her fiance, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen V. Allen, 951 Stage Road aouth, will attend medi cal school at Temple univer sity, Philadelphia, in the fall. Couple Returns From Alaska Mr. and Mrs. Earl Weaver, 841 East Ninth street, re turned last week after spend ing three weeks in British Columbia, Canada, and Alas ka. The Weavers left Prince Rupert, B.C., on the Alaskan ferry and sailed the Inside passage to Haines, stopping at Sitka and Juneau. From Haines they drove to Valdcz, Anchorage, Mt. M c K I n 1 e y park and Fairbanks. They re turned by way of the Alaska highway. Guest Arrives ! For Music Event Jacksonville - Among out-of-town guests in Jackson ville to attend today's open ing of the Peter Britt Gar dens Music and Arts festival, is Mrs. Carl Heerman from Oakdale, Calif., near Mo desto. She is a guest nf Mrs. I.e ona Stone Salyer, McCully house. Mrs. Sweet states that the Medford Junior Women orlgl nated this calendar with a two-fold purpose. Funds from the sale nf calendars were to be used for local youth work, and the calendar itself was to perform a service to the com' munity by providing informa tion of general public interest, Information Needed Under the leadership of Mrs. Truman Nelson, mem bers are now trying to con tact officers of each civic and social club to obtain inform tlon concerning their meeting dales. A listing of all such clubs is included on the back cover of the calendar each year. Mrs. Nelson asks that any group not previously con tacted call her at 772-8067 before August 31, so this in formation may be included. The inside pages of the cal endar list activities of general public Interest, These Include PTA meetings as well as city council, park and recreation and school board meetings. Athletic, musical, and dramat ic activities of local schools are included, whenever the information Is available. Chairman for the ' Inside pages Is Mrs. F. D. Nelson Mrs. Nelson has announced that she Is now gathering data for the new calendar which will cover the period from October, 1063, through Octo ber, 1964. She asks that any group planning a function which will be open to the general public, contact her with the information so it may be listed on the proper date in the calendar. She stresses that there is no charge for this service and urges clubs to use the calendar schedules in planning the dates for their activities. Any organization wishing to sched ule an event may call as soon as possible. I J Victoria Beacham Beachams Tell Betrothal News Central Point - Mr. and Mrs. Grant Beacham, Central Point, announce the engage ment of their daughter, Vic toria Beacham, to Dennis Cor nutt, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Cornutt, Old Stage road, Central Point, Both young people are 1963 graduates of Crater High school. Mr. Cornutt is serving three years in the U. S. Navy, and Miss Beacham is employed at Bear Creek Orchards as a key punch operator. A December wedding is planned. PI Beta Phis Plan Dinner A dinner meeting of the Pi Beta Phi Alumnae club will be held at the home of Mrs. Floyd Baker, 1917 East Main street, Tuesday, August 13, at 6:30. . Spokane Couple Attend Festivals Jacksonville - Mr. and Mrs. Paul Lyman, Spokane, Wash., arrived In the valley last week to attend the Oregon Shakespearean festival and to day's opening of the Peter Britt Gardens Music and Arts festival. They are hnuseguests of Mrs. Lyman's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Rich ard Hcin, Route 1, Box A, Jacksonville. The couple will leave for their home Monday. Oo-la-la! Miss Julia Marilyn Whitman Sacramento, Calif., , became the bride of Don Paul Rust, Sutter, Calif. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Johns ton, 1136 West Eighth street, Medford, and the bridegroom is the son of the late Derek Rust and Mrs. Frances Rust, San Francisco, Calif. The Rev. John Ilg officiat ed at the double ring rites which were held Saturday, August 3, at 10 o'clock in the morning in the presence of about 50 guests. For her wedding the bride wore an afternoon length dress of white brocade with a bell shaped skirt. Her shoulder length veil was held by a lace crown, and she car ried a bouquet of yellow rose buds and white carnations. Sister Is Attendant Her sister, Mrs. Phillip Austin, Burney, Calif., was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Mary Kay Dugan, Ashland, cousin of the bride, and Miss Sandra Drummond, Marysville, Calif., niece of the bridegroom. They wore yellow dre3-,es with full skirts, and wide brimmed hats. Their flowers were yellow and white car nations. The flower girls, nieces of the bride, were ' Mary Tara and Shawn Lewis. They wore yellow polished cotton dres ses with organdy overskirts. Their hats were of ruffled net and they carried white baskets with yellow and white summer flowers. Patrick Lewis, nephew of the bride, was ring bearer. Joseph Dugan, Ashland, uncle of the bride, escorted her to the altar. Serving as best man for the bridegroom was James Lewis, brother - in - law of the bride. Ushers were Michael Whitman, Eagle Point, broth er of the bride, and Phillip Austin, Burney, Calif., her brother - in - law. Eric Jen sen and Charles Darland were altar boys. Yellow and white gladioli decorated .the church and wedding music was furnished by Bruno Pellegrini. Reception Held At the reception held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Lewis, 941 South Ivy street, Medford, Mrs. Joseph Dugan, Ashland, aunt of the bride, cut the cake. Mrs. Aus tin poured the punch and Mrs. Lewis was in charge of the guest book and gift table. As sisting her at the gift table was Miss Linda Lewis, For her daughter's wed ding, Mrs. Johnston wore a blue - green dress with match ing hat and white accessories. For their wedding trip to the northern Oregon coast the bride was dressed in a navy blue linen frock with white accessories. Mrs. Rust, who attended St. Mary's school In Medford, has been employed as a dental as sistant in Sacramento. Mr. Rust has attended Stockton, Calif, schools and Chico State College. He will be employed this fall at a teacher in the Rio Oso schools, Calif. Barbecue Event Honors Couple On Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Cof feen, formerly of 108 Setwart avenue, Medford , recently were honored at a barbecue dinner which observed their forty - fourth wedding anni versary. The event was held at the couple's mobile home on the banks of the river at Rogue River. Both had been residents of the Medford area for some 60 years. After Mr. Coffeen's retirement three years ago, they have spent their time traveling. For the winter they were in Arizona and southern California, and have been visiting relatives in the valley for the summer. Attending the dinner were their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Lowery, and son Jack Lowery, and daughters, Paula and Susan Lowery and Miss Shirley Donahoo, all Medford, and Brain Witham, Ashland. The Coffeens left last week for Portland accompanied by the Lowcry's daughters and are to be joined there today by Mrs. Lowery. Jack Lowery is to play in the Shrine All Star Football game August 17 in Portland. Following the game the Coffeens plan to leave for Salem to spend a month there before returning to Medford enroute to Arizona. Many society members and guests are taking part, and this is the last day that the show may be seen. Emil C. Mr. and Mrs. Don Paul Rust (Landis photo) Jacksonville Artists Win Awards, Set Open Houses Jacksonville Three Jack sonville artists won honors in the annual art exhibit spon sored by the Grants Pass branch of the American As sociation of University Wom en in Grants Pass August 7 through 11. Eugene Bennett won first award in oils for a painting entitled, "Green Machine," and second place for a litho graph, "Sams Valley." Lyle Harrell received second place award for a drawing and his wife, Mrs. Katherine Har rell won first in sculpture. Mr. Bennett and Mr. Har rell are conducting open houses in their studios dur ing" the Peter Britt Gardens Music and Arts festival. Hours at Mr. Bennett's stu dio, 305 South Oregon street are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., on Tues days and Fridays, and also for two hours before each concert held in the Britt gar dens. Mr. Harrell's studio at 201 North Fifth street, across from the Jacksonville Museum, is open from 12 noon to 4 p.m., and 6 to 8 p.m. The hours have been set for pre-concert viewing.
