Lead Stolen - The Jackson county sheriff's department has been called into the inves tigation of theft of 1,000 pounds of lead from Susan ville, Calif., in Lassen county, Calif. The theft was reported here today. Hillcrest Escapee - A juve nile girl from Jackson county, who has escaped from the Hillcrest school for girls, is being sought by Jackson county sheriff's deputies fol lowing a request from the school. Medical Patients - Mrs. Richard Degroot, Albany, Ore., and Mrs. Leonard F. Carlson, 3617 Ross lane, Med ford, were listed today as medical patients at Sacred Heart hospital. Vehicle Damaged - A car registered to David Gordon Anacker, 429 South Central ave., was damaged by an un known vehicle about 9:48 p.m. Thursday while it was parked in front of his residence, ac cording to Medford police re ports. Hits Trailer - A car driven by Kenneth Ray Henderson, 19, Central Point, struck a house trailer and a traffic sign about 12:07 a.m. Friday on Central ave. near Boyd st. The trailer was registered to Dwight H. Finley, 737 Stevens st. No citations were issued, according to Medford police, and no injuries were reported. The island was on storm j alert for the big blow, the season's first hurricane. The : Weather Bureau said Arlene was moving swiftly northeast ; about 100 miles oitsnore ana predicted its violence would i subside within hours. j Weather-seasoned Bermudi- an residents continued a work- as-usual schedule this morn ing before the hurricane hit. Military and civilian aircraft were grounded except hurri cane hunter planes tracking the storm. The big U.S. aircraft car rier Essex and a task force escorting her, originally due here Thursday, was reported out at sea awaiting the pass age of the hurricane. His special flight landed here after a day of informal, shirt-sleeve talks with the va cationing Soviet leader at Gagra on the Russian Riviera. Traffic Signal Will Be in Operation Due to a teachers' work shop at Hoover school next week, traffic signals at Sis kiyou blvd. and Modoc ave. will be put into operation at selected times during the day. City Engineer Vernon Thorpe said today. Thorpe said the signal will flash red, necessitating a stop, from 8 to 9 a.m. and from noon to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. "UD 0 TMI e HIT H OREGOW Fire in Northeast Oregon Contained By United Press International Firefighters contained a 300 acre blaze in the desolate Im naha river country of north- , east Oregon late Thursday ' night. The blaze, about 25 miles northeast of Enterprise in the Wallowa - Whitman National forest, had been controlled earlier but was fanned anew. Thirty - nine men were added Thursday night to the 45 already fighting the light ning - caused blaze. The fire burned over grass with some scattered timber in rugged country and hand equipment was used, along with chemi cals dropped by air. The Forest Service reported four small man caused blazes in National Forest land were controlled. Two were in the Wallowa-Whitman forest, and one each in the Malheur and Winema forests. Despite hot and drying weather, only four small fires were reported on state-pro tected lands. The largest was half an acre near Gold Hill in Southern Oregon. OPEN 8 P.M.
