Dr. Gary W Demarest. He will speak at the regular services at 9:30 and 11 a.m. Dr. Demarest is the pastor of the Hamburg Presbyterian church. Hamburg, N. Y., suburb of Buffalo. He holds degrees from the University of California. Fuller ideolog ical seminary, Princeton Theological seminary and Tusculum college. For three years, he served In the U. S. Marine corps dur ine World War II. At the Uni versity of California he played varsity baseoaii ana was the president oi tne stu dent body. At the University Presby terian church in Seattle, Wash., he became widely known for his effective work with students at the Univer sity of Washington. Since 19S6, he has served as dean or platform speaker at the summer conferences of the Fellowship of Christian Ath letes at Estes park, Colo., Lake Geneva, Wise, Hender son Harbor, N.Y., and Ash land, Ore. The subject of his sermon will be, "Written On The Heart." Miss Mira Frohn mayer will sing, "Songs of Gladness" by Dvorak and the mixed quartet will also sing for both the 9:30 and the 11:00 services. World Scouts Witness Preview of Space Film Marathon, Greece - (UPD -The 13,000 young men at tending the World Scout Jam boree here witnessed the world premier Wednesday night of a United States space film and heard a message from President Kennedy. The Scouts were the first audience to see the 27-minute color film documenting Maj. Gordon Cooper's space flight May 16. Apostolic Faith To Hear Assistant Pastor Friesen The Rev. and Mrs. Loyce Carver were superintend ents at the Apostolic Faith's summer camp this past week. Eighty nine young people attended the camp at the church's permanent site on Wagner creek. Sunday the young people's chorus will open the Sunday school hour under the direc tion of Duane Jones. Assist ant pastor, the Rev. Missionaries To Talk At Allliance Center The Rev. and Mrs. John Cook, missionaries to Korea under Child Evangelism fel lowship, will be speaking and showing pictures of their work at the Christian and Missionary Alliance church The Cooks have Just returned home on furlough after their first term in Korea. Services Sunday in New Church The First Baptist Church of Medford will hold its first services in the new church buildings at 649 Crater Lake avenue this Sunday, accord ing to Rev. Bernard E. An drews, pastor of the church. Sunday School will be at 9:40 a.m., followed by the morning worship service at 11 a.m. At this service Mr. Andrews will speak on the subject, "Which Church Is Christ Building?" The chapel choir will sing and Maynard Hadley and Byron Evans will offer a duet. The Reuter Pipe Organ, transferred from the Presbyterians To Hear Speaker The Rev. Robert Bridge will be the guest speaker at the 10 a.m. worship service of Westminster Presbyterian church. His subject will be 'A Prisoner's Plea." Mr. Bridge is a retired Presby terian minister and he and his wife now reside at the Rogue Valley Manor. Mr. Bridge is now on the staff of First Presbyterian church. At one time he was assistant to Dr. Peter Marshall, New York Avenue Presbyterian church, Washington, D. C. Mr. Dawson Wilke will assist during the service. Mr. and Mrs. William Wilson will sing a duet, and nursery care is available for pre-school chil dren. Church school classes for all ages meet each Sunday at 9 a.m. The adult study group which meets in the sanctuary will begin a new series on the subject "Psalms and the Gospel." The senior high fellow ship will meet Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Collins, 245 Valley View, for swimming, followed by devotions and a program. Adventist Youths Leave for Coast Members of the Seventh- day Adventist Youth club will leave Friday for Honeyman park, near Florence. Worship services will be held by the group Friday night, with an outdoor Sabbath school and church, Saturday morning. Other activities include a hike, swimming and sand buggy rides. Roland Gang stee will be soloist and the Gospelaires Men's quartet First Baptist Church Completed 1957 Award of Merit Winner Dr. Paul Moser To Address Men's Dinner Meeting Dr. Paul Moser, national secretary o f Presbyterian men, will be visiting Med ford at the invitation of the men's club of the First Pres byterian church, of which Dale Coverstone is president. Dr. Moser has headed up the Presbyterian men for more than 12 years and dur ing this time the annual meet ings of Presbyterian men have risen from the first meeting in Chicago with a few hun dred men present to five re gional meetings each year with more than six thousand men in attendance. Dr. Moser will address a dinner meeting at the First Presbyterian Church at 6:30 Wednesday evening, at which time delegates from the var ious churches of the South west Oregon Presbytery will be in attendance. Guest Pastor At Lutheran Church The Rev. Robert K. Men zel, professor of religion at Concordia college, Portland, and director of public rela tions and recruitment of the school, will be the guest speaker Sunday at St. Peter's Lutheran church, 1020 East Main St., Medford; the Rev. Pastor To Continue Series for Baptists Pastor Bruce O. Rogers of Trinity Baptist church will continue his sermon series on "Little Known Bible People" this Sunday at the 11 a.m. worship service. The title of the message will be, "God's Trouble Shooter." At the 8 p.m. hour Mr. Her bert Hunter will lead a dis cussion on the Christian life. CHURCH NEWS National Religious Publicity Council Grace and Glory Is Sermon Topic Sunday at 11 a.m., the Rev. R. E. Cull, pastor of First As sembly of God, 1108 W. Main, will speak on the subject, "When The King Comes Back." At Sunday's 7:30 p.m. evangelistic service. Mr. Cull's sermon topic will be, "Grace And Glory." Robert Helde of Medford, a music major at Evangel Col lege, Springfield, Mo., will play a trumpet solo at Sunday evening's service. Mr. Heide is a member of the college concert band which toured ex tensively in the midwest dur ing the past term. Nazarenes Name Contest Theme "Count for Christ" is the theme for a special six-week Sunday school emphasis launched Aug. 11 by First Church of the Nazarene, 520 North Holly st. As the depart ments and classes meet their attendance goals, unusual dis plays of the head of Christ will gradually be revealed each Sunday. Aug. 18 to Sept. 15 are the dates comprising a "Steward ship Enlistment Campaign" involving the entire congrega tion. This is under lay leader ship with Lisle Young as gen eral chairman. The budget preparation of the campaign is under the leadership of chairman Clarence Starkey and publicity chairman is John Finkbeiner. Subjects for this Sunday's messages announced by the Rev. Pastor ZWEIGART .7:00 P.M. Ph. 779-107 .0 1 Pastor Assigned To Ruch Church Applegate Valley-The Rev. Earl G. Mortlock is the new pastor of the Ruch Commu nity Church. He began his ministry last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Mortlock and their children have been living in Merced, Calif. Rev. Mortlock is originally from Spokane, Wash., where he graduated from Whitworth College in 1949. He took his' theological training at the Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena. After his grad uation from college he was a public school teacher and high school basketball and baseball coach in Granger, Washington. He was on the staff of Young Life for nearly five years. Members and friends of the church will have a potluck EARL G. MORTLOCK dinner Sunday after the morn ing services to officially wel come the new pastor. The Rev. Earl Best, who was pastor of the church since its establishment seven years ago, has resigned and is residing with his family at White City. He will continue In Chris tian service. ' Church Visitation At Jacksonville The First Presbyterian church of Jacksonville will be open for visitors beginning Monday, each afternoon from 1 to 4 during the next two weeks. Sunday at 9:45 a.m. during the Church School hour, a special series of films on the life of tne Apostle Paul will be shown. During the worship service the pastor, the Rev. King K. Jones will speak on the sub ject "For Thine Is the Glory." Mrs. C. L. Robinson will be the special guest organist and Mrs. Rafe Anders will sing "Come Unto Me Ye Weary." Returned Missionary On Church Calendar Sunday Services at the Berean Baptist church of White City will begin at 9:45 a.m. with Sunday School un der the direction of Mr. Ken neth Fisher. The Rev. Elcho Redding, returned missionary home on furlough from India, will speak on "Parting Alike" at the Morning Worship Service at 11 a.m. The Scripture por tion is I Samuel 30:24. Mr. and Mrs. Redding have been serving with the Evangelical Alliance Mission in India for approximately ten years. While at home he is taking further studies at Southern Oregon College. Mary Ellen and Miriam Redding will bring the special music in the morning service, also. "Tibetan Opportunities" will be Mr. Redding's theme at the Evening Service at 7:30 p.m. Colored slides of his work will also be shown. NORTHRUP Christian Church Welcomes Pastor The Rev. Norman N. Northrup, who became the as sociate minister of the First Christian Church on August 1. will preach Sunday on "Who Are My Friends" Mr. Northrup was gradu ated from Northwest Chris tian College at Eugene in 1955 and then was pastor of the Lexington, Ore. Christian Church through 1959. This June he graduated from tho Brite School of Divinity at Texas Christian University with a Bachelor of Divinity degree. He served the First Christian Church at Marietta, Okla. for the four years ha was in Texas. Mr. and Mrs. Northrup have two children, Peggy, age 7, and Carl, 5. Coffee hour Sunday will honor the Northrups. Music at both services Sun day morning will be "Behold What Manner of Love" sung by a mixed ensemble from the youth groups. Church Groups Off To Crestview Camp The Foursquare church jun ior high group will leave fof the church camp at Portland Saturday, Aug. 10, to remain until Aug. 17. Miss Paulctte Simmons and Miss Phyllis Rasmussen will represent the group from Med ford. Aug. 17 to 24, the Cru sader youth group will go to Camp Crestview in Portland. Those attending from this group are Donna and Danny Trout, Reni Barlow, Marjoria Andrews and Gloria Rasmus sen. Miss Rasmussen is rep resenting southern Oregon in a contest for "Miss Crest view.'' Donna Trout and Reni Bar low will represent southern Oregon at the camp as a quia team. The quiz is on the book of Matthew. Other teams participating will be from the Northwest district churches. The team winning at the camp will go to Los Angeles in February to compete with quiz teams of the United States.
