Of Animal Science; To Meet at OSU Corvallis - The 55th meet ing of the American Society of Animal Science will open Sunday at Oregon State uni- j versity and 234 research pa pers will be presented before ; sessions close Thursday night. : Approximately 750 animal ; scientists from across the U. S., Canada and some for- j eign countries are expected ! to attend. From 1920 until this year, all of the national meetings , were held in Chicago at the time of the International Livestock Exposition. The de cision to shift the meetings to campuses of leading U.S. universities was made a year ago and Oregon State univer sity was chosen to be first host. ASAS "ow has a member ship of r.Jrly 2,600, includ ing 250 from other countries. President of Group Dr. L. E. Hanson, head of animal science. University of Minnesota, is president of the national group. Dr. Clair E. Terrill. U. S. Department of Agriculture, Beltsville, Md., is vice president, and Dr. James E. Oldfield, Oregon State university is secretary treasurer. The Western Section of ASAS and the Western Di vision, American Dairy Sci e n c e association, will hold meetings in conjunciion with the national conference this vpar. Most of the animal scicn- j lists and their families will be housed in OSU residence halls. A tent city will be or ganized near the OSU foot ball stadium to accommodate campers. Dr. J. C. Miller, head of the Oregon State department of animal science, is confer ence chairman. Student Leaders ! Attend Meeting Eugene - Some 190 high school leaders are participat ing in the 13th Oregon Stu dent Council Workship being ; held this week on the Univer-' sity of Oregon campus. Approximately the same number of students also are expected next week for the 14th session. The total number of participants will represent 75 per cent of all Oregon high schools, according to Dr. Ar thur Hearn, professor of edu cation at the University and coordinator of the workshops, j Both sessions are aimed at developing techniques and providing experience in group ! leadership for new student; council leaders and their spon sors, according to Dr. Hearn. The workshops are also de signed to create more uniform rjracticcs in student council work in Oregon. The Oregon Association of Student Councils is conduct ing the workshops. Assisting are the Oregon Association of Secondary School Principals and the Oregon State Depart ment of Education. I Dr. Donald I. Wood, visit ing lecturer at the university, I and professor of education at j Rice university, is consultant I for the sessions. Director is j Amelia Auld of Madison High j school, Portland. Marie Allen, Lincoln High school, Port land, is assistant director. Tom Calkins, executive secre tary of OASC, is a coordinator with Dr. Hearn. When complete, the j road will provide a tie from i Keno on Highway 66 to the ) Dead Indian highway near the Klamath-Jackson county j line. The project calls for clear ing of approximately 83 acres and moving approximately 240,000 cubic yards of road- j way and drainage excavation. ! Klamath county and forest of-' ficials have worked closely for a number of years in plan nine the road development which will provide an impor tant segment in the county and forest transportation sys tem.
