Coleman, Doin committed to resist in tegration at every level. Wed' nesday built up leads that would apparently put them in an Aug. 27 runoff for the Democratic nomination for governor. Johnson, 47, who lost three previous tries to win the of fice once held by his father, was virtually assured of a place in the runoff to pick a successor to Gov. Ross Bar nett, prohibited by law from succeeding himself. Coleman, who defeated Johnson in a runoff for gover nor eight years ago, maintain ed a lead of more than 8,000 votes over attorney Charles Sullivan as the slow tabula tion of votes from Tuesday's primary continued. With 1,307 of the state's . 1,888 precinct's tabulated and reports coming in from scat tered incomplete precincts, Johnson had 102,519. Cole man had 81,911 and Sullivan 73,595. Retired welder Robert Ma- . son, who said he entered the race because he liked to make speeches, was a distant fourth with less than 2,000 votes. The two front runners will vie in the primary three weeks away with the winner then facing Republican Rubel Phillips, a former Democrat making the GOP's first ser ious bid for the governor's chair since Reconstruction, in November. Johnson, Coleman and Sul livan all pledged to uphold segregation but varied in their proposals to do it. ' Johnson and Sullivan bit terly criticized President Ken nedy for sending troops to force the enrollment of a Ne gro in the University of Mis sissippi last (all. Coleman, a onetime Ken tucky supporter, was not as vociferous as his two oppo nents but disavowed h i s former friendship with the President. Coleman said John son, in trying to help Barnett physically block the enroll ment of James Meredith, was politically motivated. Disabled People May Get Benefits People who' are severely disabled may be eligible for social security benefits, ac cording to Edward B. Jacob son, district manager in Med ford. . Individuals having an ill ness or injury which is ex pected to be of long continued duration may qualify for ben efits if they are under the age of 65 and have worked in em ployment covered by the So cial Security Law in at least five of the ten years before their disability stopped them from working. Benefits may be paid commencing with the seventh month of disability. Jacobson urged that disa bled workers and their fami lies who are not receiving dis ability payments immediately contact their Social Security office and make inquiry as to their eligibility for bene fits. He said anyone who la un able to go to the office should , write or phone and a repre sentative would contact them at their residence. Kennedy gave birth to all three of her children by Caesarean section, a tech nique so-called in the belief that Julius Caesar was born in the same manner. The operation involves an Incision in the abdomen and the wall of the uterus to reach the baby. Such a de livery is prescribed in cases where normal delivery is re garded as being difficult or impossible. Roman law specified that the operation be perfoormed on any women believed dy ing in advanced pregnancy. According to medical his torians, the Senate of Venice Imposed the death penalty on any practitioner who failed to perform a Caesarean sec tion on a dying pregnant woman. However, the earliest re corded case nf Caesarean sec tion was that of a Swiss who operated on his wife nearly 800 years ago. DRAG WITH GRADERS Sherman, Tex.-WPD-Youthful hot rod enthusiasts sur reptitiously borrowed a pair of road graders from the county equipment barn and used them in drag races on county road, according to police.
