9 o 6 B Communist Guards Shoot Escaping Pair : Berlin - (UPI) - Communist East German border guards killed a man and wounded a woman trying to flee to the West Thursday. ' Hundreds of horrified on lookers witnessed the inci dent at Goslar. The witnesses said the guards opened fire as the pair, dressed as field hands, set foot in the "death z o n e" plowed within a few yards of the anti-refugee fence along the border. The guards poured a hail of machine gun bullets at the pair.. The woman fell with leg wounds, the witnesses said. . The man was wounded but was able to stagger as far as the first barbed, wire before a Communist guard raced up and killed him with a burst of point-blank fire from only nine feet away.
