On lookers were too concerned with fishing his station wagon out of the lake. Jack Center, who operates a wrecking service on High way 68, said Hopkins parked his car on the bank at the east end of the Inke about 78 yards from the shore line and started fishing with his back to the vehicle. The next thing Hopkins not ed was a great splash, and he turned to see his car missing. It had catapulted out 100 feet into the lake and was completely submerged. Center and his 11-year-old (on, Billy, were called to the scene. Billy dived Into the lake to locate the car, then stood on top of it. Center esti mated the depth of the water over the car at 214 feet. He was assisted in recovering the station wagon by Otto M. Patterson, a near-by tourist, who donned a swimming suit and got into the act. Center said apparently the brflke on Hopkin's car Just didn't hold. Californian Flown To Hospital Here William C. Kdlted by Mra. Alma Denny. (Copyright by General Features Corp.) Samuel P. - She's neglect ing our children to spile me, Viola P. - Ho expects per fection on my skimpy allow ance. e Samual P. - My wife and I separated three months ago after eight years of mnrrlajic. Our two daughters are with her. I'm permitted to have them Sunday afternoons, but when I call, the house is a mess, the children undressed and dirty, their mother smell ing of liquor. I can figure only that she's goading me to strike her so she can have me arrested and go on the wel fare rolls. Viola P. - It doesn't take much to make him strike inc. That's a habit - and that's one reason I want to discourse him from coming around. He'd like to find the kids all dolled up so he can take them out and show them off. Well, they rn lucky to have any clothes on their backs with the few dollars I get from their father. Besides, I'm afraid to leave them alone with him. Out of my sight, he might do them harm. That Council! Those are crocodile tears each parent sheds for the children. Each fears the other will harm the youngsters. Indeed, each must look within himself and her self to see what Is being per petrated on their little girls. Plan lor Parking Lot Is Presented Robert J. Carstrnson. Jack son county cntfinrrr, has pre pared a plan for converting tht? lot south of Pnrco D'Alba Into a parking lot for cars. The plan wa presented to the Jackson county court, which ha taken II under ad visement, County Commis sioner Don Faber reported yesterday. The plan will provide ade quate parking space for the vehicles of people visiting the county extension offices, the Jackson county health depart ment building, now under construction, and the park, Faber said. It will provide parking area for about 70 cars. Entrance will be made from Maple Grove rd. The parking plan is part of preparations being made lo care for the people who will be visiting the health de part, target date for comple tion of which is Feb. 1. l!t?4. The way construction is pro gressing, Faber naid, the building may be completed by Dec, I. By Jimmy Hatlo and what he and she cHn do (not "make" the other do) to brighten the young lives. Samuel might proceed as fol lows: Enlist the aid of a social worker (obtainable through the Family Service Associa tion of America) to accom pany him on one of those Sunday afternoon visits. If what he says is true about the sight which greets him, that separation agreement might well be revised, the children deemed "neglected," and Viola "unfit." She, in turn, might recognize that salvation for herself, her children, her home may well lie in mnrriage counseling aimed at restoring the eight- year union. Samuel evidently still cares. Counseling might help him talk without his hands! If she's really con- coined for her daughters, she'll behave and cooperate. At present those two seem to he merely "using" the kids to hurt each other. LEGAL NOTICES A U V K 1 1 T I S V.
