Headlines over the reviews ranged from "It's enough to make a President blush" to "Kennedy gets a ducking" to "Tarzan Kennedy beats the Japs nd surrenders to cli ches." The Daily Express asked how a movie could be made about the heroism of a future President "without exagger ating the exploit and making the President look a damned fool." 'Kennedy emerges not as a damned fool but a terrible prig." the Express said. Sit ting through this film of his wartime exploits must have been his mosi d.u....i..v i .vnrince this year." JULY 26. 1963 Exploits Both the direction of Leslie Martinson and the acting of Cliff Robertson, who played Kennedy, were criticized. "Robertson," said the Daily Telegraph, "plays Kennedy in a manner I can only describe as carefully.
