Lee, Manager Board of Water , Commissioners Fire Continues To Smoulder at Tacoma Tacoma, Wash. - OIPD - Fire men continued today in an attempt to douse small fires in the still smoldreing timbers under Pier 7, scene of a huge waterfront blaze here Sunday which claimed one life, in jured 17 and caused a great amount of property damage. The fire roared over the million dollar pier Sunday afternoon, kiling Fire Depart ment batallion chief Arthur Strong, 87, and scorching four gigantic cranes. The cranes were left standing over weak ened and still burning timbers that treatcned to give way and topple the 45-ton ma chines into the bay. The fire started when a crane ran over an electric cable and caused a short, sending sparks and flames on to the wooden pier area. Chiloquin Woman Victim of Gunshot Gardnerville, Nev. - (WD -A 29-year-old woman from Chiloquin, Ore,, was shot IKroiighTthe heart and killed Sunday In what authorities aid was tha climax to an ar gument over who should buy the next bottle of liquor. The victim waa Barbara Hatcher. She had been a guest at the home of Mrs. Thomiseta Ruet, 31, for the past month. Douglas county sheriff! deputies said the women ap parently got into an argument when Mrs. Hatcher told Mr. Ruez she did not have money for more liquor.
