JULY 12. 163 CHURCH NEWS National Religious Publicity Council Sermon Series fe Continue Sunday The Rev. Charles R. Mc Donald, pastor of St. Luke's Methodist church, 2320 Siski you blvd., will continue his series of sermons Sunday on the theme of "Our Mission Today". The topic for Sunday will be: "God's Mission and His Son". During the summer church school and worship are each scheduled for 9 a.m. Ralph Humphrey Is the church organist. Congregational Summer Plans Are Announced The members and friends of the Congregational church will meet for worship at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Hoover Grade school on Siskiyou blvd. - This la the temporary meet ing place of the church while plans are being made for the construction of a new sanctu ary and educational unit at the corner of East Jackson it and Berkeley Way. The Rev. Robert W. Tull, minister of the church, will preach a sermon entitled "To Live With Only Partial Knowledge." Music will be offered by the church organ ist, Mrs. Raymond Powers. During the worship hour. child care will be provided for children younger than three years of age in the school health room. Three, four and five year olds will meet in the school band room. First through fourth graders will attend the opening portion of tne service of worship and then be dismissed to their class activities for the rest of the hour. Those in fifth grade and beyond are invited to at tend the entire adult service. Beginning on Monday, Mr. Tull will be on vacation for a month. During his absence the members and friends of the Medford Congregational church will worship with the members of the First Congre gational church, Ashland, at their 10 a.m. service. Services will resume on Sunday, Aug. 18, at 10 a.m. Former Pastor To Be Sunday Speaker Central Point - The Rev. George Simon, former pastor of the Community church, Bly, will be the guest speaker at the 11 a. m. worship hour and the 7:30 p. m. gospel hour at the Community Bible church, Fourth and Alder sts.. Central Point, Sunday. Mr. Simon la a graduate ot Crater High school and a member of the Central Point church. He took hie theologi cal training at the Simpson Bible college, San Francisco. Fredrick Ross Evana has chosen for the title of his sermon "Look for the Cross and You Will Find the Church." The hours of the services have been changed. The serv ices will be at 9:45 and 11 a.m. Church school classes will be given in two sessions, at 9:45 and 11 a.m., coincid ing with , the times of the worship services. Coffee hour will be held after the second service. . At the 9:45 a.m. service the carillon choir will sing a traditional Irish melody, "Be Thou My Vision." Advent Christian To Hold Picnic The annual Sunday school picnic ot the First Advent church will be held Sunday at 11:30 a.m. The morning worship service will begin at 10 a.m. with the pastor, the Rev. 'Fishers ot Men' To Be Subject Gold Hill-"FUhers ot Men'1 is the theme tor a Sunday school contest between Gold Hill Christian and Central Point Church of Christ Sun- day schools. It began July 7 and will continue for six weeks, concluding with a picnic Aug. 18. At this time Gold Hill Christian is ahead. The contest is based on the percentage of increase. Sunday has been designat ed at Fishing For Families Sunday. Lee C u r r e y has charge of the contest. Gold Hill Christian church has been presented a gift of 30 upholstered chairs from First Christian church, Med ford. The gift from the Med ford church also included other pieces of furniture. Southern Baptists Announce Speaker The Rev. Austin Lovin will conduct the services at First Southern Baptist church again Sunday for the last time during the absence of the pastor, the Rev. Gilbert Skaar, who is expected to re turn to Medford by the end of next week. At the morning worship hour Mr. Lovin will have for his sermon topic, "The Trial of Jesus'' using as scripture reference passages from John. Dennis Samples will direct the church choir at both services. At the evening service Mr. Lovin will speak on "Be Still and Know." Sermon material will be from Psalms. Siskiyou Baptist association will meet at the Ashland church tonight at 7:30 o'clock. Emphasis will be on training union work. Dinner will be served by the host church preceding the meet ing at 6:30 o'clock. Biennial Session Gets Under Way The biennial session of the Oregon Conference of Seventh-day Adventists was held Wednesday at Gladstone park, near Portland. Purpose of the meeting is to elect conference officials for the following two year term. In attendance at the meet were Evangelists Duane Corwin and Sidney ' Nelson from Medford, and Pastor Arvin Winkle of Ashland ch'.iroh with laymen repre sentatives from each of the four valley Seventh-day Ad ventist churches. The meeting was held at the site of the denomination's annual 10 day campmeeting which began Thursday. A large number arc attend ing the session from Medford and vicinity. The pastor, the Rev. Harold M. Sanner, announced that in the 11 a.m. service the trus tees, stewards, and church school boards will be in stalled. At the time of the church schools installation, all Sun day school teachers and of ficers will also be recognized. The pastor's message will ba on "Christ's Call For Work ers." During the 7 p.m. service the newly elected missionary; council with the several chap ter chairmen will be installed. The pastor is continuing a series of mid-summer mes sages pn the theme "New Testament Nights." Music for the Sunday serv ices, under the direction of Perry Christiansen, minister of music and education, will be the sanctuary choir sing ing "Great Is Thy Faithful ness" and a number by the Fishermen male quartet dur ing the morning service. Dr. Hugh C. Benner, ona of the general superintend ents of the denomination from Kansas City, Mo., will be the presiding officer. Dr. W. D. McGraw, Portland, is the dist rict superintendent. Seventy five churches will be repre sented by their pastors and lay delegates. All Churches of the Nazarene in the Rogue valley area will be represent ed at this district meeting. Dr. Howard Hamlin, Chi cago, 111., who is soon going to South Africa to serve as a medical missionary, is the guest speaker at the district missionary convention held following the district assem bly.
