If you are a Spahn an you can quote statistics to back your argument all day long, and maybe through the night, Koufax fans can wrap up their argument in a hurry, mostly because Sandy hasn't been around nearly as long as the soon-to-be-43 Spahn. But they are imposing figures at that. Koufax, who was only sev en years old when Spahn be' gan his major league career with the Boston Braves in 1942, hurled his eighth shut out of the season Sunday, only two short of the National league record of 10 set by Mort Cooper of the St. Louis STANDINGS United Presa IntemaUoiul AMERICAN UAUUt Haw York 50 31 Chicago . 47 3B Boaton 44 37 Mlnnaaota ......... 4S 31 BiMmor 47 40 Clavaland . 44 40 Lot Angelea ..... 41 48 Kansas City 38 4S Detroit 3 47 Washington 30 99 Pet .817 .S53 ..143 .943 .540 .924 .471 13 .430 14 '4 .427 1.V4 .340 32',! Readers Welcome Newspaper Advertising . . . It's Not an Intrusion! People really want newspaper advertising and have said so. Surveys usually show well over 80 in favor of newspaper advertising; less than 70 for magazines ; and under 40 in favor of advertising on radio and TV. Your advertising's first job is to win a friendly feeling for your product. It stands to reason you will win more friends by running your advertising where most people want it If you want to sell more people you have to reach them when they are receptive. Newspapers reach more of the most receptive people.
