Giiarlei LmIm Black (Myri photo) California Wedding Of Interest Here Gold Hill - Of interest here Is the recent marriage of Miss Kaaren Elaine Hilty, Costa Mesa, Calif., to former Sams Valley resident, Charles Les ter Black, a corporal in the Marine Corps stationed at Marine Corps Air Facility, Santa Ana, Calif. The bride Is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Nelson, Costa Mesa. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Black, Gold Hill. The newlyweds are now re siding at 2426 Orange avenue, Costa Mesa, nfter a wedding trip to LaJolla, Calif. . The new Mrs. Black plans to attend Southern Oregon college, Ashland, In Septem ber to study for a degree In mimical science and history and Mr. Black will leave for a 13 months lour of duty In Japan. ' The wedding was held May 31 at Newport. Harbor Luth eran church. Newport Beach, Calif. The Rev. James Blaln, officiated at the 7:30 o'clock evening double ring cere moiiy. Some 75 relatives and friends attended. Mr. Nelson gave his daugh ter In marriage. The bride's full length gown, fashioned with a bell skirt was of nylon organza over white Chantllly lace. The fitted bodice had a , boat neckline and elbow length sleeves and her shoulder length veil of silk illusion was held by a headdress of three while organza roses. Her bou quet was a cascade of white roses and lily of the valley. Baskets of while stock car nations, and gladioli decor ated the church. Miss Priscilla Jarvls, Co rona Del Mar, Calif., was maid of honor, and Miss Sue Hilly, sister of bride, Costa Mesa, was bridesmaid. They wore matching sheath dresses of green pcau dc sole and their hats were a single large bow with a fingertip length veil. They carried cascade bouquets of yellow rosebuds on Hawaiian croatan leaves. Best man was Ted Carvcy, Costa Mesa. Ushers were Robert Older, Sana Anna, and Bruce Fracllch, cousin of the brido, Anaheim, Calif. Following the wedding ceremony a reception was given by the bride's parents at the church. Miss Dixie Dug gun, Central Point, cousin of bridegroom, presided at the punch bowl. Miss Pam Reed, Anaheim, was In charge of the guest book. , . For her daughter's wedding and reception Mrs. Nelson se lected a dress of mint green with beige accessories and Mrs. Black wore a cream and beige ensemble with black ac cessories. . - For traveling the bride wore a pink woven suit with white accessories and a cor sage of yellow cymbldium or chids. . The bride is a graduate of Anaheim Unlun High school and attended Fullcrton Junior college and Orange Coast col lege. She Is employed at Seas- port restaurant. Newtiorl Beach. The bridegroom is a graduate : of Crater High school, Central Point, and at tended Southern Oregon col 1'jho, Ashland and Orange Coast college. Others from Orenon who attended the riles were Mr. and Mrs. C, W. Duggan, and Mrs, Mabel Hundley all of Central Point. Among guests were former residents of Ore gon, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Blckctl, formerly of Rogue River, now of Granada Hills, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Paul March, formerly of Sams Val ley, now of Long Beach, and Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Duggan, formerly of Sams Vallev. now of Guadalupe, Calif. !1 1 Local Student On Hawaii I our . Miss Evelyn Niedcrmeyer, daughter of Mrs. Marian Nie dcrmeyer, 2884 Larch avenue, is a member of a Linfield col lege group now in Hawaii on a Howard Study tour ar ranged through the University of Hawaii, where they arc enrolled in summer sessions. This week end the students are touring the Island of Hawaii to view orchid gar dens, volcanoes and other points of interest. They also are to attend a concert of the Haile choir and a Hawaiian show at Hilo. The group will he conduct ed on a trip to Kona through coffee plantations. Miss Nie dcrmeyer, one of the 11 stu dents in the group, is to return here about August 10. She is employed by MEDPACC. Eugene Couple At Home Here Mr. and Mrs. Richard Du ane Skorpen will make their home at 10 Willamette street when they return this week end from a wedding trip to Carmel and San Francisco, Calif. Mr. Skorpen Is employed by the National Cash Register company here. The bride is the former Miss Elaine Marie Eklund, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John K. Eklund, Eugene. The bridegroom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Skorpen, Eugene. The wedding was held June 30 at the Central Lutheran church in Eugene: with the Rev. Olaf A. Anderson offi ciating at the four o'clock afternoon rites. The bride, given in mar riage by her father, wore a floor length gown of white silk with lace overbodice and her elbow length veil was held by a pearl crown. She carried a bouquet of white flowers. Miss Gail Wickstrom, cous in of the bride, was maid of honor. Flower girls were Debra' Sue Eklund and Terri Burgctt, nieces of the bride and bridegroom. Michael Bur gett, nephew of the brides groom, was ring bearer. Jerry A. Eklund, brother of the bride, served as best man and ushers were Ronald Lam bert, Jerry Anderson, and Douglas Van Dyck, Medford, A reception followed the ceremony at the Eklund home. Mrs. Harold Wickstromi an aunt of the bride, and Mrs. Lloyd Eklund, her sister-in- law, cut and served the enkc. Miss Sylvia Skorpen, Miss Robert McKcnzic and Mrs. Robert Burgctt, sisters of the bridegroom, poured coffee and punch. A. Ryerson, Central Point. For the occasion, Mrs. ,Todd chose a pale green three piece silk suit with bone ivory ac cessories. Her white orchid corsage had been sent from Hawaii by Lt. Cmdr. William E. Todd, a son of the couple A cake and gold tapers cen tered the reception table and a golden 50, made from gold covered silver dollars given by the grandchildren and great grandchildren of the couple, decorated the gift table. Assisting the hostess were Mrs. Jackson C. Jones, Miss Bonnie Brantley and Mrs Agnes Pathmann. During the afternoon, Mr. Jones played special piano selections. Work Program Topic Montague-Films and a talk on missionary work in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia were on the program for the , Monlague Women's Society of Christian Service recently when the group, mot in the home of Mrs. Fred Boorsma, Grenada Showing the pictures was Mrs. Donald Hammond, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. T. Ready, Grenada, who is a nurse in Ethiopia, where her husband is a missionary. A bazaar was planned for December 7. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Boersma, Mrs. Wil- lard Freeman and Mrs. Mi chael Shalz. . Plan Picnic Eagle Point - - The Eagle Point Garden club will hold its annual - picnic in Lithia park, Ashland, Wednesday, July 10. Italy To Be Program Topic For Fellowship A missionary program on Italy will be conducted dur ing the Women's fellowship of First Baptist church when the women meet Tuesday, July 8 at 1 p.m., in the new church on Crater Lake ave nue. Mrs. James Jack, who has lived In Italy, and Mrs, Bertha Hlbbard are in charge of the. program. Mrs. Jack will tell of experiences in Italy, espe cially during World War 11. Officers will be receiving hostesses. Mrs. Nell Gardner will lead the group In prayer j ai me close oi the meeting. Sam Houston, Tex., after complet ing three-years Army duty, visited for several days with his grandmother, Mrs. Georgia Allen, 134 North Pioneer street, before going to his home in Missoula, Mont." . 1 Bridge Club Series Contest Opens Tuesday A series contest for Med ford Duplicate club members will open Tuesday, July 9 and will continue through Sep tember 10. All players may compete for extra rating points and prizes will be awarded to top win ners of the eight-game series, officers have announced. The summer contest has been ar ranged to create a regular attendance during the vaca tion season. Curing the July master point game held last week, two sections were in play. Winning first in Section A, north-south position were Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Crews, 130; Mrs. Sam Richardson and Wal ter Ensminger, 12Vi; Mrs. R. T. Jones and Mrs. Paul Mc Duffee, 110, and R. D. Cope land and Dr. William Judy, 108. Winning in Section B, north-south position were Mrs. Jack Mitchell and Mrs. H. R. Welch, Crescent City, Calif., 120; Mrs. Glen Harri son and Mrs. Sam Van Dyke, 1041; Mr. and Mrs. Lcland Clark, 93, and Mrs. Henry Holmberg, and Mrs. A. W. Lingaas, 97V4. . The east-west winners in Section A were James Morgan and Berg Martin, 128V4; Mrs. H. J. Boyd and Mrs. Ray Wise, 118V4; Mr. and Mrs. E. K. Ricker, ..118 and Col. D. H. Barber and Ralph Meegan, 115. Mrs. Nat (Eleanor) Dixon, New Bern, N.C., and Com mander Todd were unable to attend. Out of town guests included Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Todd and children Gene, John and Gay, Concord, Calif.; Mrs. W. E. Todd and children Kim, Phil, Lori and Lynn, Marina, Calif.; Mrs. Mary DePew, China Lake, Calif. Among the guests were nine grandchildren Larry, Denny, Steve and Cindy Ryerson; Beverly, Don and Richie Todd; Miss Brantley; Mrs. Jones, and Stanton Jones, great grandson. The couple has 22 grand children and three great grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Todd were married June 23, 1913 in Al bert Lea, Minn. Mrs. Todd was the former Evelyn Ft Wedge. They moved to Med ford in 1921, where Mr. Todd worked for Bear Creek or chards until his retirement in 1961.
