Medford Speedway
Jalopy Races Today
More than 40 "jalopies" are
to compete this afternoon in
auto racing at the Medford
speedway in east White City.
' Track officials said yester
day that interest is high and
they expect a huge turnout.
This is the opening race of
the season. Many of the cars
will be on the track for the
first time.
The race had originally
been scheduled for last Sun
day but was postponed be
cause of an inclement weather
prediction. Yesterday, the
weatherman gave the affair
the green light for today.
Entrants are from valley
cities, including Ashland, Tal
ent, Central Point, Eagle
Point, Prospect, Gold Hill and
Medford. Entries are also ex
pected from Grants Pass and
Yrcka, Calif.
Competition should be keen
as entrants try to qualify for
the 28 car main event. There
will be several heat races,
a trophy dash, a semi-main
and other special events. Win
ners in all events will receive
trophies and merchandise
awards.
Spectator gates will open
at 11 a.m. Time trials will
begin at 1 p.m. followed im
mediately by the races. Pit
gate will open at 10 a.m. for
drivers who wish to practice
before the timed runs.
Nomina admission will be
charged and concessions will
be available at the track.
