Being adopted at PSC this year, the program enables stu dents to obtain advanced col lege standing with credit whe ther or not their high schools participate In the program, according to Dr. James Hart, chairman of PSC's academic requirements committee. Students passing Advanced Placement examinations may be given credit for freshman English, composition and Eng lish literature, American and English history, biology, chem istry, physics, mathematics, French, German, Spanish or Latin. ."The program is not for every student, but for those capable of doing college work beyond the freshman level. By giving recognition to those students of superior ability, we hope more students will go on to graduate work and into the teaching profession,' Dr. Hart said. High school seniors seeking additional information are asked to contact PSC's coun seling and testing office or write directly to the College Board Advanced Placement Examinations, box 592, Prince ton, N. At the moment, AU-H20 is about the best selling item In the political campaign mate rial line. In fact, it is about the only item that is selling at the moment. Or so I was told by Earl Butler, a big button man from Chicago. Butler's firm, Jhe Gma Duck Co., is on of tha ex hibitors showing their wares at a specialty adver tiling guild display here this weak. I stopped by the exhibit NrSM I aft h ' s .-T 'i II after receiving a press re lease reporting that it would offer a preview of the but tons, badges and other politi cal advertising novelties be ing created for the 1964 campaign. I must say, however, tnat in some respects it was more like a review than a pre view. Butler s booth, lor in stance, displayed a number of "Dick and Pat" buttons. "Good Heavens!" I said Don't tell me they haven't given up yet." Butler hastily assured me that he was not anticipating a heavy demand for Nixon buttons next year. Except ior the Goldwa tar crowd, ha said, tha sup porters of prospective presi dential candidate thus far have ordered vary little campaign material. Therefore, in order to dis play a complete line of the types of material he has available, he was obliged to borrow a few samples from the archives. Most of the campaign gim micks displayed at the ex hibit would be familiar to the average voter, but for lapel pins and auto bumper suckers there is a shiny new material called "refraction grating" that is guaranteed to attract attention. One booth featured adver tising and political slogans one of which read "Be Happy Go Rocky," I am not certain however, that it was intended for the 64 campaign. Another company display ed neckties with political la bels In the place where gravy spots normally appear. The lettering on one tie read A Solid Gold Dinosaur." You can draw your own conclusions as to which can didate that is supposed to represent. TESTIMONY HEARD - Vice Adm. Hyman C. Rickover, builder of nuclear submarines and perennial critic of educa tion in the United States, is shown as he testified before the Senate Education subcommittee. He said a "copper- riveted" fraternity of professional educators is perpetuating mediocrity in the American public school system. Doris J. - She's walking Into a hotbed of In-law prob lems. Fay R. - If Ed continues to keep them in line, they're fun, pee Doris J. - A girl as popu lar as Fay can win a pro posal of marriage from some one else than the only broth er to six sisters. As her best friend and one who knows that family, I'm warning her to go slow before becoming engaged to Ed. Shell have seven, not one, mothers-in-law, who humor him, pam per him, wait on him hand and foot. Both he and they will expect Fay to do the same. Fay R. - Doris may know the family but she doesn't know Ed. He lets them all baby him, but when he wants them to leave him alone he speaks up. I get along fine with the girls even though I admit I hardly listen to them. To them their brother can do no wrong. But his parents are delightful, espe cially his Dad. If Ed's father can handle all those women, Ed can too and show me how. Tha Council - We all know couples who, with several lit tle girls on deck, keep "try ing for a boy, and some of them achieve him. Now shift the scene to 20-odd years later and consider the unsung hero ine who marries him. What is his view of women? He's an "only" to his mother and sis ters. In addition to pleasing her husband, must his wife satisfy all those clucking chickadees who hope he's be ing appreciated and done right by? Fay takes her cue from Ed. If she marries him, she doesn't marry his sisters but she is affected by his at titude towards them. Can he navigate" alone or must he turn to them for guidance? We gather his eyes are wide- open, despite the atmosphere of hair - spray and bubble- baths. Whatever his appraisal of women, as gained from his sisters, he has a separate Impression of "wives, as re ceived from his mother, from the wives of his pals, and - gradually - from Fay. For Doris we add a reminder that a stockpile of sisters can be a blessing as well as a threat. . .. ''.- .:' f $MJ rj I .
