JUNE 33. 1H3 Eugene Physician Arrested on Charge Eugene (CPU Dr. Hjal mar Gentle, 64, Eugene was arrested by city police here Friday on two charges of man slaughter by abortion. Dr. Gentle was named in secret indictments returned by the Lane County grand jury Wednesday. He was released on $1,000 bail on each charge. He was accused in the in dictments of performing il legal operations Sept. 27, 1961, and May 9. 1962. BLM to Award Job To North Bend Firm Washington-tUPll-Rep. Rob ert Duncan (D-Ore.) said Fri day the Bureau of Land Man agement would award a con tract to Fred Jensen, North Bend, Ore., - for recreational site work at Loon Lake east of Reedsport. He said the work, to cost $17,422, would start about June 28. It will include ex- icavation, development of the I swimming area, road and sparking construction and a j concrete boat ramp. No one was injured. Dryer Fir - Medford fire men were called at 11:30 p.m. Friday to the residence of Lowell Martin, 418 Ardmore ave., when fire was reported In a dryer there. TAYLOR Funeral services for Mrs. Eleanor Ann Taylor, wife of Kenneth Taylor, of Brook ings, Ore., who died Thurs day, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Hillcrest Memorial Chapel on the North Phoenix rd., The Rev. Robert E. Cull of the Assembly of God Church will officiate. Com mittal will be at 4 p.m. Mon day in the IOOF cemetery at Coburg, Ore., with Conger Morris Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Taylor was born Jan. 28. 1918, in El Paso, Tex.. She was married Aug. 11, 1955, in Oregon City, to Ken neth Taylor, who survives. Other survivors include son, Jimmie Taylor, Atasca- dero, Calif.; four daughters, Pst Young, Prineville; Victor ia, Denise and Debra Taylor, Brookings; three brothers. Seattle, William Nichols, Richland, Wash.; and three sisters, Mrs, Erma Webb, Richland, Wash.; Mrs. Maxine Eldridge, Ana. heim, Calif.; and Mrs. Ernis tine Leon, Taft, Calif. a half brother, Horatio Floyd Phelps, Mexico; a half sister. Clolhts Burn - A load of clothing in dryer at 512 West Sixth st. burned Satur day, Medford firemen report ed. Cause of tho fire was un determined. There was smoke damage to the interior of the dryer and also to the build ing, an automatic laundry plant. Car Fire - The rear seat of a car registered to R. S. Christianson of Seattle, Wash., was a total loss as result of a fire Saturday of undeter mined cause. Medford fire men responded at 8:10 p.m. The car was at 410 Hamilton st. RALPH BEAL Funeral services for Ralph H. Beal, 79, of Jefferson, who died June 8 in an Astoria hos pltal. were held June 12 in the Fisher Funeral chapel. The Rev. Lester Jones officiat ed. Interment was in the Wil lamette Memorial Park ceme tery. Albany. Beal was born in Ft. Scott, Kans., and moved as a boy to Central Point. He was married there to Alta Wood, a native of the Rogue valley, who preceded him in death In 1959. They lived at St. Helens and at the coast prior to moving to Jef ferson in 1951. He was a re tired locomotive engineer. He was a member of the Albany Elks Lodge 359. and of the Oregon State Grange. Survivors include a son, Marion (Pat) Beal, Astoria; two grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Cecilia Fifleld, Ml. Shas ta, Calif.; a step-sister, Mrs. Marguerite Pote, Shady Cove Ore.; and three great grand children. It is ex pected she will be In the hos pital for another week. Mrs. R. L. Scvcik, 26 Willamette ave., her daughter, returned to Medford Friday after ac companying her mother north. VERSTEGEN Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Jennette Verstegen, 58, of 813 East Ninth St., Med ford, who died Thursday, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Conger Morris downtown chapel. The Rev. George Roseberry of the First Metho dist church will officiate. Committal will be in Siskiyou Memorial park. Mrs. Verstegen was born Sept. 14, 1904. in Sand Cou lee, Mont. She was married April 21, 1928, in Wolf Point, Mont., to Carl Verstegen, who survives. She moved to the Rogue valley In 1942. From 1950 to 1954, with her husband, she owned and operated the Dew Drop Inn in Cave Junction, then moved to Yrcka, where they operated a restaurant for about a year. She spent the following winter in Happy Camp, and moved to Medford in the spring of 1958. For the past six years she had work ed in the cafeteria at the Lone Pine school. Survivors, besides her hus band, include a son, William Verstegen, Compton, Calif.: a daughter, Mrs. Margaret S. Quinn, Medford; a brother, William Glllln. Great Falls, Mont.; and three grandchil dren.' Two sons, Douglas Ver stegen and Donald Verstegen, preceded ner in death. Casket bearers will include Norman Thames, O. R. Nord strom, J. O. Mr. Phelps was born Aug. 21, 1901, in Cordoll, Okla., the son of Clinton Roy and Lola Pearl Phelps. He was married in Lordsburg, N. M., Dec. 18, 1926, to Jessie Pearl Coombs, who survives. Mr. and Mrs. Phelps moved to Ashland from Arizona in 1943. Survivors, besides his wife, include a son, Clinton R. FEARS PROVE GROUNDLESS Cambridge, Ingland-IUPD-A coroner's court ruled Thurs day that Richard Hawker, a 21-year-old Cambridge stu dent, had shot himself fatal ly, due to tear that he had flunked his second year his tory exam. The dean of the college disclosed that Hawk er's "fears were groundless." The youth had passed the exam. COORDINATE PLANS Sgt.
