Many a time I have seen a young woman terribly di tressed and ill because of her difficulties in living with her own mother. One trouble was that they belonged to two dif ferent generations with differ erent ideas of what was prop er. Perhaps a rellgiously-brought-up mother was dis tressed over the two or thrpp cocktails which her daughter and her son-in-law enjoyed before supper. Also, perhaps she disap proved strongly of her son-in. law's Saturday night poker parties, or she much disliked his smoking, or she could not stand the bolsterousness of her grandchildren, or their blaring radios, or their love of doing the twist. The PUC claims the truck ing firm owes the taxes for nan-mail freight it carried. The trucking firm says the law exempted it from all rood-use tnxes over the Port-land-Ashland haul which was handled by Southern Pacific Railroad until 1055 when rail service was suspended. Pa cific Motor Trucking, a sub sidiary of Southern Pacific, then took over the mail haul. U.S. Accused of Buildup in Viet Nam Tokyo-IUPD-The North Viet namese army high command has accused the United States of "feverishly" accelerating the buildup of American mili tary forces In South Viet Nam, Hanoi Radio reported In s broadcast monitored here to day. The radio said the Commu. nist army high command de manded that the Internation' al Control commission "draw appropriate conclusions and urge the United States to cease all Introduction" of mill' tary personnel and equipment into South Viet Nam. house. I have known daugh terg who resented it when their still active and wide awake and youngish mother much wanted to do some of the work in the kitchen, or the daughter objected to her mother's doing any washing or mending or sewing or Iron, ing. Hurt Feelings Sometimes there are terri bly hurt feelings because a mother in the home naturally expects to share in all of the dinners and tea parties that her daughter gives. But some times the daughter wants to have just a few of her young friends at a party. Also, in many cases, the grandmother in the house greatly disapproves of the way in which her teen-aija grandchildren are behaving and being brought up. If they are to live comfortably in the home, grandparents had bet ter not make any criticism of the children or of what they are permitted to do. The Impression investiga tors have obtained on talking to many elderly people is that they ' would much prefer to have their own little apart ment; and actually, a high percentage of elderly people according to the last statis tics I Tiave seen - live by themselves. Even widowers and widows tend often to live alone. Peo ple who have studied this problem generally feel, that if it is humanly possible, aged parents should have their own little home or apartment. cr u rrrr CfrlE fjREAf SALT IAKE IN Tr(E SfATC Of C0UUECTCtff WDtli A.
